Batman Arkham Asylum *Play it now*

Welcome to 2009? :p

But having said that, I'm still stuck on it. I'm at the bit where you fight Bane, not sure how far this is through the game (not very I hope!) but I just can't do it! (playing on hard mode)

I found that really hard too. I dropped to Normal and started again, to get through that bit.

Found it rather boring for the most part. All the main mutant bosses are just Beserkers ripped out of Gears of War. Combat was pretty much button mashing, with the exception of a few of the varied henchmen. Fighting the mutated gits was just a rinse+repeat of gear's beserkers. X-Ray mode just made things way too simple.

The environments that made up the exterior of the Asylums were brilliantly created though. Probably the best bits were the Scarecrow sections.

I've so far racked up 45 hours playing the game to 100% completion in the SP on hard and now just spending time playing the challenge levels - which will take a long time to master!!

Great great game - here's hoping the second is even half as good!

 I only spent 2/3 of that time on GTA IV (finished the story and some side missions). Gotta say u guys do make the best of your games, I have too many to play so I'm going through em faster

So good because I expected nothing of it. Really didn't expect a batman game to be as enjoyable and well scripted as it was.

This was pretty much my view of the game also. Really enjoyed it and only bought it because it was so cheap on steam at the time and it turned out to be one of the best games I've ever played for pure single player storyline and enjoyment. The combat system is still one of the best I've used in this sort of game and the addition of enemies with knives and shock sticks meant you had to start thinking instead of just button bashing. I normally hate stealth games as well but theres a strange fascination and satisfaction in this game with knocking out an entire room of armed enemies with just your bare hands and abit of skill lol.

Interested to hear the views of the people who didn't like it on what they didn't actually like and how long they tried it for etc.

Got it in steam sale, not installed yet. I only bought 3 games not 30 though.:)

lol I swear I must've bought like 40, but it was the best £95 I ever spent lol, some cracking games

I got Batman AA before in the give and get sales and was every penny worth the £5.10, unlike AVP, very good but not 30hours+ good, I put in 12 and I was happy lol

Boring. Waste of money.

It's great when you read comments like this. I mean why not at least try and quantify why it was boring?

It was an absolute brilliant game. How many games on the PC have we got even remotely similar to it? Gamers are crying out for something other than a generic FPS and we finally get a series like Batman which is superb.

The voice acting was superb, having the bat gadgets was excellent and the fighting was great fun. The puzzles kept me coming back until I'd found them all and then there was an 'arcade' mode as well.

The weird 'dream' worlds added variety and the bosses were great.

I think I picked it up for @ £4 and it's by far the best game I've played in the last year or so.

Agree with the majority. Really fantastic. Atmosphere and characterisation head and shoulders above anything else I've played for a long while. Good strong story, too. Well-paced and compelling game-play, and fun fighting mechanics (worked fine with kb/mouse for me). I never tired of inverse takedowns and stealthy gargoyle-hopping, and the fluidity of the system made it consistently interesting in the big thug battles as well (loved the "party pooper" fight :)).

Top, top game. Looking forward to Arkham City...

I think the only thing that i didn't like about the game (apart from the final boss) was that they started to use the big guys quite frequently in regular fights nearer the end. It kinda spoilt the combats free flow when you'd have to stop to deal with the charging hulk now and again.

The stealth was absolutely brilliant though.

You see, this is a game that could do with a demo.

All my mates rave about it. A lot of people on this forum rave about it. But lets face it, the track record with comic book hero games has been nothing short of abysmal, so i'm more than reluctant.

It did originally have a demo but i don't remember what happened to it.

Its understandable. Comic book games have a terrible reuptation, i don't doubt a lot of people here were well aware of that and a bit skeptical but the demo was excellent. It goes for the more mature approach and the gameplay itself is brilliant. You can button bash through fights if you really want (until the knife or prod wielding enemies turn up) but that ruins the amazing feel of beating an entire mob senseless with every available technique in a completely fluid way. And the stealth sections are far more than just arbitrary changes in pace. Its just extremely entertaining to knock down some poor sod with a batarang then hang his mate up from the ceiling, then shortly after attract attention with a sonic batarang, pop out and beat some guy up right in front of another guard then vanish into the rafters, so by this time the last guy is so paranoid that he starts shooting at random noises while you swoop in and kick him in the face.
