Thanks, I'm not a big fan of using driver sweeper so this will be a last resort for me.

I've also read that disabling hyper-threading on the cpu cures it. Not sure about that myself but I guess it's worth a try.

I've never had any problems with driver sweeper, if I was you I'd go down that route before disabling HT.

I cant see how Driver Sweeper would mess up your OS. It's very easy to use, just click on the type of device e.g. Display ATI and click clean. When you have ran it and restarted your PC your resolution might be very low, that happenes because all traces of the drivers have been removed. You just have to install your drivers then.

Yeah good job, it's just ****ed MY windows up.
You should be banned for this, recommending highly suspicious and hack-fisted software that has ruined thousands of hours' worth of stuff.
I now have to reinstall Windows and redownload BF3 amongst other things, and bandwidth costs money. Nice one.

Can't blame me for that, I and thousands of others have used it without any problems. Its not highly suspicious at all, its been around for years. I've used it many times before, what exactly did you do? I think you may have pressed the wrong button. All Driver Sweeper does is remove registry entries that a normal Uninstall wouldn't.

Performance was way better tonight, no stuttering just some banding from the servers and all I did was uninstall cap3. TBH I reckon most of the problems are on the server side and they seem to be better now. I did stay off of Teamspeak as well so that might of had an impact. Guess I'll have to try out some more demanding settings tomorrow and get the eye candy up a bit.

So glad I didn't use driversweeper, it's proper dodgy.

8GB 1600Mzh RAM
6870 1Gb

1920 x 1080 res

Games runs very consistently and well, no real stuttering or crashing, settings on "high" getting me 45-60fps, MSI Afterburner shows approx 900Mb VRAM useage.

Maxed out ULTRA settings also plays OK, again no stuttering, consisten but 30-40fps, and not as great to play but looks pretty, VRAM useage shows about 970mb

Got another 6870 arriving tommorow for Crossfire so hope that boosts perforamnce on ultra

With another 6870 you will defo be playing on Ultra, let me know what the performance increase is like

I can confirm that the latest NVIDIA driver can reduce vram usage. 1600MB-ish reduced down to 1400MB-ish.

I hope ATI do the same. I tried cranking up a few settings to Ultra (Texture, Shadow and Mesh) and noticed my VRAM usage go from 1600MB to 1998MB. The game ran quite well averaging at 50fps but after a few minutes it started suttering really bad. The game would freeze for a seconds and MSI showed the FPS go down to 1! I can only assume this is due to the fact my 5850's only have 1GB of VRAM.

It's a shame because after seeing what thte game looks like on these Ultra/High settings I really want to play it like this. There is definently a big difference between High and Ultra.

I was thinking of selling my 5850s and getting two 2GB 6950s. I doubt any of the new 7xxx series cards will be faster than two 6950s. Am I mad for upgrading for just one game? lol

I will be tonight Hope I can play at Ultra settings without me running out of VRAM with these new CAPs.

Using these settings I get 45-65fps on a single 5850. Plays very smooth.

Change your FOV to 90, your not playing on a console! but your FPS will go down.

Changed to 90, fps is the same and can't tell the difference (I did restart the game for the change to take effect)

Strange? I changed from 70 to 90 and noticed an instant difference. Did it prompt you to save your changes when you exited the graphics menu?

I wanna go home and try! Im hoping Ill be able to play with textures, shadows and mesh on Ultra everything else on high at above 60fps. Which forum did you read that from? And you dont need to install 11.10 Preview 3 again do you?

x2 5850 running caps 4.
No stutter at all in MP.
I play at 1920x1080, 90 FOV and gives me 58- mids 70's fps

What graphics settings?

Try it with Ultra on Texture, Shadow and Mesh. It looks a lot better than with everything on High.

Installed CAP4 with already installed 11.10 Preview 3 and getting really bad stuttering:



This is worse than CAP3! I'm gonna uninstall all drivers and start from scratch (11.10 Pre3 then CAP4)

EDIT: Reinstalled 11.10 Pre3 and now its all good Getting average 80fps on these settings:



VRAM hovers at around 1970MB though

Reinstalled Windows, redownloaded the game and tried the new CAP profiles - the stuttering has completely gone now, but I still get crashes all the time. My quit rate shown on Origin is a massive 43% because of this.

Yep Im still getting crashes too. I never got the update from Origin, apparently there was a 472MB one this morning?

What cap with 11.10 pre3?

Im using CAP4 with 11.10pre3. The stuttering seems to have gone now. I think it is a VRAM issue afterall as when I start a game with Ultra/High settings VRAM is at 1970. I change settings to just High but VRAM stays the same, its not until I restart the game that VRAM goes down to 1700. Somethings now quite right, I think Im asking too much form my 5850s

I was getting a lot of instability not only in BF3 but in Windows 7 aswell using 11.10 pre3 + CAP4.

God rid of both and installed 11.9 + CAP4 and my system runs smoother. BF3 is the same too. My GPU usage isnt as all over the place but neither card is at 100:

Got an SSD drive and turned off page file to help extend its life. Played some Battlefield 3 and Windows prompted it was running low on memory so BF3 doesn't take more than 4GB but its very close.

Dont turn off page file, move it to a mechanical hard drive.

Thanks mate, I used this guide and moved it to the first partition of my second drive, I still left 1000MB page file on the SSD because the guide said so? Is that OK?
