Uninstall PB using the pbsvc_bc2.exefile in the steamapps>badcompany2>install>punkbuster folder... if it's not there use Control Panel to uninstall PB. But bear in mind, this method will need you manually update PB for the games that use it via the PBSETUP utility from the PB website.

Edit: My BC2 is retail so had to uninstall using the Control Panel method.

now i cant join a game, deleted pb through steam, reinstalled thorugh pbsetup, updated it for bad company 2, and now i get kicked when joining a game lol.

have you tried manually updating punk buster ?

i had to do this when my game kept on crashing and i manually updated it and now its fine.

I had exactly the same problem - the reason I ask about the constant sound loop.
Seems to be a problem with BC2 and sound drivers along with PunkBuster; follow this link Bad Company 2 Fix
Follow it to the letter and it should be fine.. I did what the link outlines and its been perfect since - Zero crashing. Another vote of success; my brother had the same problem. Now solved too..

Pop any questions in here if you need to and I'll keep an eye out. :)

Edit: you do have Realtek sound on your motherboard?

Saw that on the EA forums before and it looks like BS to me TBH.

There is a huge thread on the EA forums about crashes and the above solution does not solve it for everyone (or perhaps anyone, although they might think it does).

I occasionally experience the same issue in both BC2 and Medal of Honor. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I can play for hours, for days, and it won't crash. Then it will suddenly do it. It might then crash half an hour later. It defies prediction. And I do not use onboard sound. The game has a bug which the developers cannot identify yet, if they ever will.

hmm well i uninstalled pb from steam via the uninstall exe in steam which stopped me from joining a game, so i tried to reinstall pb from pbinstall but that said it was already installed, so i had to find the pb folder in steam and deleted that, and then update which now lets me into a game but i still crash in game, i have just found that realtek have released new drivers today which i have just installed but not yet tried to see if its fixed my problem, if i continue to have problems i will format and reinstall everything tomorrow i think.

The game is to blame, not your system.

It isn't punkbuster, I have mine fully updated and BC2 still crashes sometimes.

It isn't Realtek, I have a Creative card (onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS).

It is the game, it has a bad bug in it.
