Battlefield Heroes Closed Beta starts today

I like the look of this game, hopefully they'll do a good job of it when released :)

According to this page: http://www.battlefield-heroes.com/beta closed beta starts today.

Anyone got any extra information? Where to sign up? Or will they just put a form up?

They do say on the page above that they'll give information on where to sign up in the following weeks, but that tells me that a few people will be selected before then for closed beta before they put up any kind of 'public' sign up process? :confused:

The first part of the closed invitation only beta starts at 12pm for us according to the countdown.

This has always been the way with every closed beta I have been involved in. Usually its only a couple of days to a week before the first keys for non invited players opens.

Should be fun but alas I fear the kiddies are going to spoil yet another game for me.

I do agree that being free this puts it straight in the firing line of a lot of kids, but I think they'll be quite a few players from other online games giving this a try. I know I am. If EA do this right (heaven help us) this could turn out to be quite a good FREE game. Look at Trackmania Nation Forever, that must be one of the most popular racing games out there.....

That's what I was wondering... if they've handed keys out, or if they're putting the closed beta signup form up some time today?

So did you put your email in somewhere a few weeks back? Have they closed the beta signup form since?

As you may have noticed, you killed our website. We are not angry. We’re very pleased you want to be in the Beta.

The beta for Heroes will be divided into several stages, the first of which is all about testing out this new way of getting games to you all; by downloading and installing them from a website. We’ll also be trying out some other dull stuff to do with servers, so we are expecting the systems to be down as much as they are up.

To help us track down all the technical issues, we have asked a third party to find us some specialist Beta testers. We are doing all this because we want to be sure that when we launch Heroes, everything will work smoothly.

So hang in there! We will announce here when it’s time to sign up for the public stage of the Beta.

So the Closed beta is for the EA tech support department and their mates, and when they know this like the download system work, they will let us public peeps have some goes at breaking it....

Known abilities at this time are Grenade Spam ability (allows 15 grenades to be thrown at a time), I Eat Grenades ability (throw back seven grenades at once), Stun Grenade ability (Flings tanks into the air), Life-Points Boost, and Incendiary Ammo.[2]


Healing is by a 'blast heal', a soldier ability that heals the player and any friendlies nearby. Players also have a bandage which restores less health and only works for your own character. Using the bandage when you are not injured boosts your health over 100

The soldier is able to determine enemy locations via a special ability called "See-the-Enemy". This ability outlines nearby opponents even if the enemy is behind a wall

My only concern about the game is that its mostly 3rd person, and im guessing only sniping will be 1st person. Should be a good game though, it looks like it will have the simplicity and fun that TF2 has, but with the wide open landscapes and maps that the battlefield games usualy have.
 
From what i read a week or so ago i doubt i'll be playing much of this as there are no dedicated server files and when you join a server you are put on a random one based on your skill level so you'll never beable to jump on the same server as your mates.

I don't think this will be too big a problem. In my eyes, it's just intended as a quick jump in a play sort of game, as opposed to, say, your average 2D flash game.
