BBC Rogue Traders presenter guilty of £24k benefits fraud!

Heh, it's him the smug git :p, is this a show in it's own right apart from the slot on Watchdog?

Wonder what Ann Robinson will say when he isn't there on next series! :D

I find this far more hypocritical than Jimmy Carr.

Yup tis always amusing when public figures who are so critical of others get caught out doing similar things themselves...

I guess Jimmy Carr was just hypocritical/morally dubious - this however guy was blatantly fraudulent/illegal.

Thing is I suppsoe whilst hes technically a presenter he hardly does anything. I think hes just there to try to liven up the dull bits of the show.

He wasn't exactly paid a lot by the BBC so its probably a chunk every so often with no guaranteed next amount just if they call him back. Hardly likely to be a salary. So he would probably lose a lot when he taold them what he had earn't, the same old situation where the benefits are too good to start with so if you do do some work you would lose most/all of your benefits. Which IMO encourages people to not declare.

Saying that he was wrong and had no excuse. There needs to be better integration between government depts. I canot believe for one minute BBC hadnt passed the details to the tax office yet the benefits office clearly were unaware of them. Thats of course assuming hes not got his own company, based offshore etc
A lot of TV and film work is done on a freelance basis, so you have to do your own tax return.

This would explain why the BBC would not pass his info on to HRMC. :)

Don't know what surprises me more, the fact he claimed benefits with mug known to entire country or the fact that he allegedly only earned £56k across 3 years for working on Rouge Traders even if we discount the old stand alone series and count only 46 new format watchdog episodes. There is no way on earth he would be paid this low, even for background appearances.

Why would anyone whos on TV try and commit benefit fraud? surely someone would have known he was working. The wife always thought him and Matt were bum buddies the way they used to ride on the bike together. :D

He is working for the Beeb though, so he isn't going to get paid as much as a non PSB might do.

Further to that, wasn't he really just hired to be a motorcycle driver to begin with? Matt Allwright already was a Watchdog presenter involved in consumer affairs and such, when they started Rogue Traders going after people, he basically sat on the back of the bike to give it that edge that they were going after people. Penteado's Portuguese accent and somewhat broken English was also unlikely to be a reason why they would hire him for much else.

Matt Allwright is 'the talent' and is the one who gets paid a considerable sum. I'm sure Penteado gets paid a little more now, but he isn't really bringing much to the show.

UPDATE

Just saw on the BBC news ticker...

BBC Rogue Traders presenter Dan Penteado jailed for 12 weeks for council tax and housing benefit fraud
