Time spy 1080p

4k

Unigine Valley 1080p

k8jDtq5.jpg
zFS2eNU.jpg

Time Spy 1080p ;
Vega 56 (Turbo)= GPU Score 8828 vs 1070 Ti = 6805

Time Spy 4k
Vega 56 (Turbo)= GPU Score 2969 vs 1070 Ti = 3077

was expecting that to be the other way around personally - thats quite a big jump for 1080p

Unigine Valley 1080p
Vega 56 (Turbo)= GPU Score 3057 vs 1070 Ti = 3792

will have to do a 4k unigine Valley for both - completely forgot

just realised I'll have to repeat this all for Intel 8400.... ;(

and then have to repeat it all with Vega on water and Ti overclocked.... damn!
so far its close, real close Vega taking lead in DX12 1080p but 70 Ti holding its ground at 4k, whilst dx11 it smashes through at 1080p

He6R6zx.jpg

need the following controller
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £33.47 (includes shipping: £3.48)

and to get phanteks Halo to work you need to mobo converter cable.
plug in coolers cable, connect phanteks cable to the units and use a male to male bridge provided in the kit to mate the two cables together

Total: £21.29 (includes shipping: £7.39)

The CM hub is pretty cool, could adjust the brightness to 3 settings , ones above are max, then medium and minimum which I'll have to get a shot of, just leaves the rings lit with no light bleed onto the fans ! Actually looks incredible and nice if like me, anti RGB although I do admit the blade design on Bequiet fans offer such a stunning effect on these Halo units

Lowest setting with halo RGB covers on CM Hub

Bit of a side note, wife mentioned my Parvum case is a little on the large side, know @ExoMale likes to quote itx builds as something different, so why not give it a try .
K3 board off to have Lan port fixed (bloody kids!) So I stuck it in the empty chassis :)
Least it's another CPU to test against the midrange 8400 & 1600 .... Must resist temptation for trying i3 8100 with the 70Ti and Vega

Heatsinks aren't to bad and a lot more surface area then MSI first attempt at it , and VRM sink is nicely done and bolted solidly
I've got one of my m.2 under Alphacool PCIe heatsink , so interesting to see how it performs against gigabytes solution

8 Pack 3200 ram , will see how far we can get it :)

That moment when cooler is out on wonky ... Should do for hardware test (already wired up the power button wrong )

Have you been able to give both systems a good test yet?

After having both are you more likely to recommend the Intel or amd?

Very happy with my 1600 build mind.

Just read your message and lighting bolt hit, why didn't I just install the 8400 in the itx board and plug in the drivers and carry in with the tests... Not the same board but shouldn't effect the locked 8400, believe itx board also has blck overclock so might try to push the 8400.
Did give amd and good hammering with Vega 56 with turbo mode and gtx 70 Ti and was flawless and pushed a £116 board to hit 3.95 GHz without the board or 1600 dieing !
AMD has cost board partners a lot of money here, Intel makes them money. Had the B350 been locked but with ram speed unlocked. would have been a great platform to allow X chips or standard to be run with 3000/3200 ram kits to offer solid performance per pound, and leave the x370 to get or overclocking manually and the bees knees features..

To be honest... Which ever is cheapest ! Intel K chips hold the top peg for gaming personally and Ryzen 1700 for gaming and media work .
I3 K for me, looking at it on paper... Just the best for price, if it can shake the stigma of its an i3. But 4 cores flying at 4.9ghz overclock for £140 odd on £115 z370 board and ram as high as you like...

But i5 8400 and R5 1600 should dominate sales

With mention of ram speed and coffeelake - coming from myself mostly thought id put it to the test. Currently on the side project I7 8700K but will do the same for the i5 8400 , which personally for me is the Gem in the group.
know theres lots of reviews out there and peoples on views so thought id try myself

All tests done using @8 Pack 3200hz kit

And finally got the intel build done !

will say when I started this - took a little longer then planned and prices and stock all went mental . intel i5 8400 and ryzen 1600 were the same price when this started, now ryzen is at a price drop and 8400 is floating over £210 .
At the start I would have said the i5 8400 with z370 board pushing 3600 ram would have been the gamers choice!
Now, its ryzen, cheaper, cheaper boards, can use slower cheaper ram ... intel did when games but not by much !

as for the GPUs, I got the Vega 56 stock for £409 here , later friday sales were £350 and now sold to a miner for £630!
My personal view on them- both cracking! Vega 56 edges on DX12 and the fact freesync screens are cheaper- specially that AOC 32" 1440P va 75HZ panel for £200- blessing for this card. GTX 1070 Ti has the advantage with DX11 and power - but now even prices of this and gtx 1070 Ti in general are creeping up!
With the talk of 1070Ti vs 1080 10/11Gbps ... if your doing VR then grab the 1080 11Gbps if you can, if not standard 10Gbps , if gaming on screen then save some cash and OC the 1070 Ti.

I've ordered a GTX 1070 Ti Palit Dual card for the Ryzen build... will be able to see how a Top tier and entry card fare and hopefully slap a waterblock on it to push the chipset .
Least i can run a intel/ryzen vs with default 1070Ti at the same time :)

Second Gtx 1070Ti turned up for the Ryzen build, was meant to be Palit Dual but didnt order in time so saw a Windforce come up on sale, turns out its the Triple fan Gaming version- score!

Unfortunate- 500w UNit installed which can run the cards at default speeds but would be under 95% load and I didn't get an SLi bridge in the box ;(
But couldnt help resist throwing it in for some snaps!

Friends asked if it was worth slapping the second one in his rig- personally couldn't recommend it but think i'll try SLi bench mark on the Ryzen build for the hell of it :D
