Be.... Visible

i don't have any reflectors on my bike - i do however have a couple of good lights and reflective clothing. Might have to invest in some 3m reflective stuff as well:

the crazy thing is you can now get reflective tape / fabric that's black without light hitting it.

TBH I sometimes ride with a headphone in, the other ear gives me enough sound ability (as well as the sound coming through the other ear). Both headphones on are mental though. But then saying that car drivers with music blaring are just as bad, just they usually survive if someone hits them...

Off road however, both headphones for some fun!:p

Lights are always essential, my back light is permenantly attached to my bike so it's always there and if I'm going any distance on a bike I usually have a torch (200L) attached to the handlebars and a headtorch on (usually comng back from a bit of off roading again...

Never understood the fascination with removing reflectors. I know some people suggest that it can unbalance wheels, or that they fall off but I've had the same ones on for years and they have never been a problem. Either way the cool kids have flashing cap lights;) (yeah I dont...)
 
Seems to be the trend in Manchester by every walk of life, to ride around in the dark in normal clothing with not so much as a pair of clean teeth to light their way, or make themselves visible from behind with a red light. Students and the non-working fraternity seems to be the worse offenders, but just as bad if not worse are the City workers riding their £1k bikes, when the cost of a half decent front and back lights can be had for pint money.

Thats utterly stupid, I wouldn't consider myself a complete safe cyclist, I do cycle with my iPod but I don't think its distracts as I can hear car noise anyway, but I always make sure I am clearly visable. I know the police were stopping cyclists last year for not having lights and fining them hopefully the police will be out again this year catching more stupid cyclists who don't use them.
 
I nearly ran over some little scrote a couple of nights ago, he decided that wearing dark clothing and cycling all over the road was a good idea. I had to follow him for a good few hundred yards before I could safety overtake the cretin. His friend saw me coming up behind them and went onto the pavement out of the way, but apparently it's hilarious to weave all over the road in front of a ~1400KG brick. :rolleyes:

To be fair I've removed them on all my bikes I've had too .

It's unnecessary weight when I've bothered getting Carbon bits :p, and I hardly ride my XC Bike on the road.

Though of-course if I'm going out at night (road or off-road) I'll stick a headlight and taillight on :).

Why would you even want to bike with headphones in?
I need both ears to safely judge traffic coming from behind, and to hear pretty much anything else going on around me.
It should be illegal just as it is for drivers.

I do this when I'm not on the road but definitely not when I'm on it. I've seen plenty of cyclists round the City/crossing Tower Bridge with earphones in. Ludicrously stupid.

After dark I like having lights on my bike. It's fun.

And you didn't explain to her that it's technically illegal to ride without them?
 
Saw a guy.. well I say saw, I only just saw him.

On the hard shoulder of the A12 (essentially a motorway, it's a dual carriage way from Ipswich to London, pretty big, 3 lanes in a lot of places).

At 9pm, so pitch black,

with no helmet, and wearing all black.

Absolute nutter!
