Hi, iv just moved into a new house, and iv got the biggest room. The current bed iv moved from my parents house to my room is only temporary as i would like a double bed. Can anyone offer any advice. Baring in mind im a student so price is an issue, but feel free to add anything on beds you think i might find usefull.

The £80 wooden Futon from Ikea.

We have one in the living room (ubercheap and nobody actually likes sleeping on our air bed) and I sleep on it two or three times a week with no issues.

I have weird sleep problems and some nights I have to get up and move to another part of the house to get to sleep.

i bought the ice cube bed from argos I think it cost £120? but thats because it has 6 drawers for storage. and they are big drawers too - very handy!

had it over a year now and it hasnt fallen apart like all the other beds I have bought for that price. I think without drawers its £100.

Buy as expensive a mattress as you can afford, the frame can be cheap but don't skimp on the mattress.

agree with this.. the bed frame doesn't matter too much unless your gonna be humping like rabbits on it..

the mattress however.... go test some first to find one you think you could sleep on because if your like me you'l no doubt spend most of the rest of your life in it :p

Spend a lot of hours in the bed shop laying on the beds so you can be sure it's comfortable. And I mean hours, you need to be sure you're not going to be getting backache. Tempur matresses are weird, sweaty, expensive and almost impossible to get up out of so you might want to avoid them.

What should one avoid if one does plan on humping like small furry cute animals with ones significant other on ones bed?

Not that i am or anything?

Edit: What should i avoid frame wise, i dont need any advice on anything to do with humping thanks.

Well it doesn't really matter how much the bed is going to be, its essentially going to be an arrangement of planks of wood. The important bit is where it joins together indicated by the red circled bit.

You will see in the first example that it is held in place by a plate with two bolts or screws. The problem is that when you are banging some bird the general forward and backward motion shakes the bed to bits and the headboard will snap off and the bed collapses sending either her or your face into the wall. The right has a big bolt in it as well as the plate to resist it against shifting.

Basically look for the strongest joint in the thing over the material the bed is made of at a low budget. :D

Ah i see, what about squeeking, cause my old bed used to make a hell of a noise when activities were performed, and that was a metal bed frame, how does one avoid this noise, i dont want to annoy my housemates to much during the small hours of the morning.

Rubber bed or place a sock in her mouth. I don't think there is a way to stop squeeking.

if you want a sturdy bed that doesnt creak or bang against the wall then the ice cube bed I mentioned is definitely ideal for that :D

I've got a wooden single bed from Argos.

Nothing squeeks but the head does "bang" on the wall abit. Best thing ever is an A4 ring binder - slot it on the top - like a wedge against the bed head and the wall. Sorted.

Edit: Here's the bed - Argos
