Been asked to phone a potential employer

I had work experience a few agos at a surveying company which was arrange through a family friend, since then he's had a meeting with a big surveying firm in Manchester and mentioned me to one of the associates there who told my family friend to encourage me to apply for their graduate scheme and also phone him before sending in the application.

However, I have no idea what I'm meant to say when I phone him? Should I just introduce my self and hope he takes it from there or have some questions ready to ask him about the company e.t.c?

Just ring him and ask about the usual stuff you would for that kind of job, he sounds like he wants to talk to you so maybes hes either going to give you a hand, or scout you and see if your any good and fast track you.
