So a few of you know about my first flash bracket (which was actually mk 6/7 after many failed attempts at a half decent bracket.)

I pretty much use this bracket every time i do macro work, its very light, holds the flash fairly well and has a little bit of flexability.

Great you might think, no need for any thing else. If only i thought like you :)

this is mk 2 flash bracket (in real terms its about mk 12, again after many failed attempts with wood at bending, shaping, carving, burning, sanding, cutting, scraping.....you get the idea)

This new version is made from 5mm solid aluminium, held together with m6 bolts and wing nuts and has a nice oak handle.
After making a wooden prototype to see if the bracket would work i was happy it was going to so set off making it in aluminium.

Being made from solid aluminium its extreamly rigid and a little heavy, but not as bad as you might think. Aluminium is a very light metal as we all know. When its fixed to the camera it adds a nice weight, and because it so rigid you can hold any part of the bracket and it supports the camera fine.
Adding the flash makes it a lot top heavier which after a few hours shooting starts to get unconfortable. If i had a lighter flash like the SB-400 i could happily use the bracket all day.

As you can see from all the holes the bracket is very versitile, There's a lot of room for moving the flash about which is quick and easy with the wing nuts.
you can even take the oak handle off and fix just the top part of the bracket to the camera for a lighter simpler bracket.

I can even use my original wooden bracket with the new one to give me even more versatility.

in all im pretty happy with it, its nice and solid, holds the flash very well and gives a lot of flexability. on the down side its a bit big and heavy, maybe i can fix that in mk 3 (25)

you can get pretty much the same thing from the bay for a reasonable price, but my cost me the grand total of £0 and i enjoyed making it :)
