Evening all,

Hopefully there's a simple solution out there but I'm not certain what it is at this stage.

I'm planning a desktop build to include a monitor that will triple up as my pc monitor, tv and display for my xbox.

If I were to buy some 2.0 logitech speakers, how would I incorporate these with the desktop in order to play the pc audio when using the desktop, the xbox audio when gaming and the tv audio when watching tv?

I'm a complete novice to audio setups with pcs other than plugging a couple of bog standard speakers via the speaker port in the back of the pc. Sound cards are completely alien to me, do I need one to do the above?

I've made this sound complicated but it's probably something very simple :)

Any help is always appreciated as ever

Best way would be to connect them to the headphone out, that way they will output sound from whatever you are doing with the TV. If you would rather have each connected to the speakers, console/TV/PC, you would need some audio selector to connect each device, then have the speakers to the output. Then you just select which input via a selector switch. You can get speakers that have multiple inputs, but even they would not have an input for all 3 devices I suspect, and you would be paying more for that privilege anyway.

With 2.0 speakers, you don't get a range of inputs unless you spend a lot. The other option would be to get an amplifier and some bookshelf speakers. This would cost more than 2.0 speakers, depending on which ones you are looking at, and also the amplifier would be big. It also depends on if you have space for bookshelf speakers. However, using an amp and bookshelf speakers, not only would gain a host of inputs, but quality that PC speakers cannot match, unless you pay quite a bit.

It depends a lot on how much you are looking at spending.
