The teams wanted rid of the T-car because of the extra cost, and the fact it gave an advantage to the big teams with more money.

Yes they did but as @englishpremier said, ALL the teams carry enough spares to build a new car anyway. So in reality they are all carrying a T-car to start with, which in turn means none of them are saving one penny at all.
