these will NOT have the 1:1 pixel mapping fix, as it's only in trials so far. Once stock starts being shipped with it, you'll see reports on the net about it (and I'll post it on here when i hear too :))

This would, indeed, be like a heart attack to many of us here. :p

Noticed that the monitor is now back in stock and have checked and it does not have the 1:1 pixel mapping update. Having spoken to the BenQ holland head office (european head office) they say the 1:1 pixel mapping is only on trials at the moment in their factory so they have no idea when it is to be released.

Been waiting to buy this monitor for christmas however waiting for this update has delayed me so need a few questions answered please guys.

Does the 1:1 pixel mapping only come into effect if i plug an external device into the monitor such as xbox 360, dvd players etc.

I'm only planning to be using it for pc use, no external devices so will the picture be fine if only for pc use, e.g. fill screen perfectly if just for desktop use and latest games ?

it mostly only effects external devices. Basically, if the device attached is capable of controlling the aspect ratio, no matter which interface you use, and no matter what the device is, then you don't need the hardware scaling from the monitor. A PC is fine to connect and control it'#s aspect ratio, only if you are using software on the PC which can do this. NVIDIA drviers can control the aspect ratio, and so if you have an NVIDIA card, you should be ok. It only effects things when you output a resolution other than the native to the screen really (ie in games). Watching a 4:3 movie will be fine from a Pc, as the borders are added by the PC down the sides, since the screen is still ultimately outputting 1920 x 1200 res.

External devices dont have their own aspect ratio control really, so this is where the problem lies. More info here

Baddass, (or anyone else for that matter)

Do any of the current 24" screens allow PIP using the VGA and DVI connectors as the two inputs?

(I know the 2407 doesn't, so mainly interested to know if the BenQ does)

Elite-

your FP241W will have a silver bezel, the photo shown looks like an FP202W, which is the only black bezel we sell in the UK, the FP202W doesn't have height adjust, it's a normal stand.

out of interest, TOC requirement (used) to be strict on bezel colour, and is still advised in TCO03 & 06. FP241W is one of the first monitors with TCO06.

Colour of the frame
Think about the appearance of the room where the display is to stand. Choose a display with a frame which has a neutral colour compared with the lighting conditions in the display’s surroundings. This means that the frame surrounding the display must not be too dark or light compared with the wall behind the display.

If the frame surrounding the display seems too dark or too light, a problem with contrast is created which is extremely tiring for the eyes.

silver bezel on both Z and non Z.

I don't think we are too hard work to deal with, maybe overworked :-)

I've no confirmed details on how/when the firmware upgrade will happen, but as soon as we know then so will OC as they have sold most of our UK stock.

hope this helps a little.

HI m8

You maybe able to help us more.
Do you have access to any high resolution images of the BenQ FP241 with silver bezel as upto now I can't find a thing and what BenQ emailed me was very dull?

no worries.

link

here's the press gallery, clicking "original" gives hi-res, or clicking preview or thumbnail gives a lower res.

silver on while isn't great though, if I have a coloured background I'll get KI to email you.

I bought a dell 2407 because i couldnt wait any longer :p

Unfortunately everyone seems to be waiting as there really doesnt seem to be any decent reviews coming out on the benq in its current form. Personally if i were you i would wait. Im selling the dell when something better comes along, and im hoping that the benq is it.

the number one reason for buying one of the 24" badboys and not buying a dell is because the dell doesn't support 1080p HDCP.

Its just wont play a 1080p source through the dvi-d.

limits options.

its the benq or a tv at the moment.

Oh, yes it DOES support 1080P HDCP encoded content over DVI, it just depends on the source (so long as the player does not rely on EDID data). Taken from the 2nd article below: "the FLI5962H controller does not limit HDCP content to 720p at all like some people predicted".

Do you think that it would be possible to apply this firmware (if it works) at a later date after purchasing (as in at home)?

there will apparently be some process in place to allow current owners to update their FP241W's, but this wont be done by the user, most likely you will need to take it to a service centre or send it off i would imagine

Thanks for the update m8

So, what resolution does the FP241W support over component? I'm tempted to get one of these monitors, but am unsure because of this point. Or is there no problems with resolution over component, only that HDCP isn't mentioned? (for fairly obvious reasons) Basically, what will an Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive look like on this? ;)

My 360 runs at 1080p Via componant (monitor displays that in the settings) but through VGA it shows as 1600xsomething This is something which microsoft are aware of and will try to fix in the next dash update.

It depends what you are playing but I do not think a single 7900 will be able to push out good framerates at 1920 x 1200 with any eye candy on.
