Hey folks,

Looking at getting a new monitor around the overclockers site. Following searches on these forums and other sites I've arrived at a choice between the BenQ G2420HDBL 24" and the BenQ EW2420 24" .

When I started looking I wanted something circa £150 (although the BenQ EW2420 is £180), that would do HD.

My primary useage is Web Design (rarely any graphic work), Programming, Watching iPlayer / DVD's. I also have an XBOX downstairs and being able to plug it in when the other half is watching TV is a plus, but not necessary.

My question is whether the more expensive BenQ is worth it? I'll be getting a new system soon so I would prefer a monitor that I don't have to worry about.

If there's a better solution to either of the ones I've mentioned then I'd be happy to take a look at them too!

Cheers

I know nothing of the EW2420 but i will happily say don't waste your money on the G2420HDBL, had two, they were awful, could say the price reflects performance though i guess

There is a massive thread on the EW2420 (should come up if you search for it) and many posts by myself echoing mrbios' experiences with the G2420HDBL. The EW2420 has far superior contrast, superior colour reproduction, superior viewing angles and generally a superior image. The build quality is also considerably better and it feels a lot less 'cheap'. The responsiveness, however, is not the best (not that this will be a problem for your uses) and there is significant variability between panels. The upcoming EW2430 may work on ironing out some of the variability issues but based on the aesthetics and possible market positioning it may be a bit more expensive.

Check this out for more information and be sure to read the review if you haven't already. TFT Central also has a good review of the EW2420 up and it highlights some issues they had (with gamma, for example) that we didn't experience with our unit - again highlighting the variability here.
