BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

How are the colors on this compared to IPS?

Will be more or less the same as the asus rog swift, so very good/the best for a TN screen but still not quite as good as IPS especially when it comes to viewing angles.

I must say, I am extremely tempted to pick this monitor up as I so badly want freesync and amazing motion clarity, not too bothered about 144HZ as I can't even maintain 80 FPS, let alone over 100 for a lot of games with max settings + it is going to be a long wait for a 21.9 34" 1440 144HZ free/g sync screen that isn't by ACER :(

I would sorely miss the 21.9 aspect ratio but with a lot of game developers these days being lazy and not properly supporting it, it can be a right PITA....

Just wish asus would bring that freesync 144HZ IPS out sooner although I suspect that it will cost quite a bit more than this benq and the acer IPS gsync equivalent....

Nexus, do it mate, it's a fantastic screen, wouldn't lie to you just for you to purchase it. And I really think you will be surprised how good the colours are. If these had a glossy screen like the IPS monitors, you wouldn't notice any difference. I'm plaing all my games now with no v-sync, really pushing these crossfire 7950's, but they are hitting 120/144 in plenty of games, as far as 80% I'd say. I'm like a kid, going through my collection looking how amazing they play now lol.

And a note, just turn off blur reduction, the screen is fine without it, I can't see any blur on mine with it off, and the colours and vibrancy is so much better than if blur reduction was on.

Not all IPS monitors have a glossy finish, most of them are anti glare/matte, whilst the clarity of glossy screens is absolutely lovely, I couldn't use them, I wouldn't be able to see anything with the amount of light in this room :p

Yeah, I don't think I would mind the colours but I don't know about the contrast shift as I don't always sit in the centre for gaming and watching films/tv shows.

hehe, I know the feeling :D Exact same for me when I got my UW screen.

Going to try and hold of till next month to see if anything is mentioned about the asus (a brand I would rather avoid though...) IPS 144HZ. Besides not much point getting anything as I am not really playing any games atm and probably won't be till GTA 5 :( Also, I reckon the price for this will drop a decent amount within the next 4-5 weeks.

Wow! Cracking price for this screen!

I could probably get about £200-240 for this 29um65 but I don't think I cba selling it, too much faff :p :o

:D

I want to get this screen but as i'm on Nvidia would I be missing out on this freesync/gsync bandwagon.

Currently on a XL2410t 120hz so I wouldn't miss anything that I've never had but is it really worth the all the fuss.

Looks like I am going to have to wait for crossfire drivers before jumping on the bandwagon. Although I have read this monitor's freesync, only works in the range of 56-144Hz. If that is true, then this is a no go for me, I thought it was 30-144Hz. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Bought Battlefield 4 this week so I have been playing that non stop. It looks amazing on this screen, especially with Mantle. It runs so smooth. The issue of it going off and on have stopped since I lowered the clock on my CPU and upped the voltage of the card.

Freesync can range from 9-240hz. The monitors panel will depend on the Hz range, below 30hz monitors experience bad flickering. I am not sure what this monitors lower Hz is, can someone enlighten us.

Exactly. I was under the impression that G-sync only worked within a certain FPS range. Anywhere outside of that and it will not function. Which is the same as FreeSync.

The LG 34UM67 (2560x1080) and Samsung UE850 (4K) both have a minimum refresh rate of 40 Hz while the BenQ XL2730Z (2560x1440) has a minimum refresh rate of 30 Hz.

This may completely change the relevance of refresh rates when looking to buy a new monitor. Minimum refresh rate may become a more important number than maximum refresh rate, especially at higher resolutions.

Found that quote from another forum but I am unsure how true it is.

They are the correct operating ranges. The BenQ runs down to 30Hz with FreeSync.

That is great news, I was playing Arma 3 and had some dips to 33-35 frames when playing Overpoch. This monitor has improved my gaming experience, freesync will only make it better.

Firstly want to say this monitor is epic. After coming from the green team with a ASUS ROG SWIFT monitor. Now over to the red team with this monitor I honestly don't feel as though I've made a bad decision.

There is tons of features on this monitor that weren't available on the ROG swift. The only criticise I can make is I preferred the ROG SWIFT Base stand, that is all!

I have one on my desk

Its replaced (temporarily) one of my XL2420T's

I'm the only AMD user in purchasing so Gibbo has given me one to test and do a review.

Sadly no Driver at the moment but the 1440p 120hz is impresssive i'm going to struggle going back. As soon as I know about freesync I'll be posting my thoughts don't worry.

Thats interesting to hear, especially seeing as you come directly from the Swift. I've been hearing bits and pieces lately from Swift users and ppl with G-Sync seriously considering moving over to adaptive sync side of things. The screen is incredibly good I can vouch for that. Seeing it at 144hz running BF4 without Freesync is something, so god knows how good it's going to be come the 19th for those lucky people with the right cards. Come on 390X lol, my wallet is ready.
