Another shop near m8 actually ask you to check the board all socket 775 boards because of this. They had to many people bringing them back with bent pins so a self assessment of the board before you leave the shop is expected.

Though in your case if you order it and it has bent pins then to be honest it's a faulty board and should be replaced by the shop you bought it from.

its most likely that this has happened by putting the protective cover under the clip thing on the cpu socket, = warranty void

The cover was on top when i got the board where it should be, ive put it back now.

My mate says i should just try it anyway but i cant see it working properly ?

Just a quick one,

Have you looked at a 775 mobo before?

Just in case you havent, all the pins should lean to, in one direction. :D

This is just incase you had never seen a 775 socketed board before :D

If RMA'd probably would void your warranty, because they would argue it was done by mis-handling.

But its not uncommon for some boards to leave the factory in a bad state, I recently had a £400 server board by supermicro. Brand new, it ran for 30 mins, then stopped working.. wouldnt post or anything. Enquired about RMA and they quote me £50 plus 3 week wait.. under warranty.

so in the end i chose to take it to a motherboard repair company as it was quicker, 4 days only, and cost £70.. urgently required for a customer so that was my only option.

But on inspection, they found "liquid" on the board, in very small quantity, tbh i didnt even notice it and im only using air cooling. As well as finiding other rubbish on the board... metal filings under 1 of the heatsinks.. so the whole board had to be washed and cleaned.

That wasnt what caused the board to fail though, it was 2 capacitors on the underside of the board under the processor, apparently 1 had fallen off, and the other was shorting out. So it had obviously left the factory in a bad way, so in the end it was good i didnt RMA it because it would have just been void, £50 down, and no repair.

so if there are any doubts about the warranty being void due to socket damage i sugest you contact a company which can repair boards to see if it can be changed. It's certainly quicker.

Hi, no i didnt, but even if i did, i dont think Supermicro would have paid out and instead just void the warranty. Because part of the damage was "liquid" damage, and dirt. Which they could argue was done by me.. case of my word vs yours, even though it was fresh out of the box and only running for 30 minutes.

I am not having much luck either, there saying damaged cpu pins invalidate the warrenty like and pretty much saying that asus wont want to know (and i can understand that from there point of view), but i cant help thinking that despite the fact that neither asus or ocuk meant to send me a damaged board, they sold it me, so i dont know what to think, and i dont want to get the thread locked either lol

Its going to cost me £10 as well to send it back, which could prove to be futile if i get it sent straight back.

Ive ordered another board like in the meantime

Distance selling act, and sales of goods act both cover the consumer againsts goods unfit for sale. Manufacturing defects do happen, and claiming warrenty is void on a brand new board which has never had a cpu fitted....

If there was even a hint that they might reject it as an RMA, I would probably return it under distance selling act, part of the distance selling act is there to allow you to have a look at a product and decide if its in perfect condition (just as you with anything you buy in person in a shop).

A motherboard with bend pins is unfit for sale, so you should be protected by sale of good act as well.

From the sound of it you didnt even attempt to install a CPU. I would not let anyone try to tell you that you have no rights to get working equipment for your money.

lol could not believe it, brand new P5K Premium turns up in a box, not from ocuk i mite add, and the cpu cap thing, is only floating around in the antistatic bag lol, luckily the pins were still perfect on it, but im thinking, jesus if they were damaged as well, nobody would ever believe it

Digital camera + take pictures = evidence :p

Like I said m8 the shop near me which is a big PC shop like OC have a bit sign up where you collect your goods...asking people to check their 775 socket motherboards before leaving the shop.

Now how can you check it if you ordered it? thats a bit silly if you ask me. They should check them before actually sending them out no matter how many sell...if they want to keep a good customer service then this should be done then you wouldn't have to go through what your going through now.
