Bent wheels on bouncy car [E39]

Been having a front bounce in the car (E39) and suspected shockers. The previous owner replaced the driver side shock and left the other. Took the car to a specialist in Stockport (Baymow) and up on the ramp he could not find anything wrong with the suspension. He then spins the wheels and we find 3 are not truly round. The worst affected is the front left, which to me feels most bouncy. Odd thing is that I don't have noticeable vibration or wobble (only small shimmy at 40-45).

I have looked in wheel straightening and been quoted £35 per corner. I like my style 49 wheel but replacing them will cost a fortune. Do you think this could be causing the bounce ? would it be worth straightening them ?

Well I wouldn't really want to be driving around with bent wheels so its a no brainer for me.

I am assuming you mean replace. The thing is they are a bit bent on the inner rim so in theory should be a simple fix. Replacement will be a minimum of £500 :(

yeah, I would have replaced both shocks, but the previous owner only did one. At least he put a Bilsteins in :)

He put one stiff Bilstein sports shock absorber in, and left the other 3 as standard, fairly knackered OEM ones..... I'd be fairly worried about that!

What is it with modern BMW wheels? 3 out of 4 of my mates 540i wheels were bent when he bought it.

Style 49's are everywhere. They were the standard wheel you got if you had a prefacelift E39 SE with the 'Sport' pack on it so there are plenty on Ebay.

They wont be. I'm guessing your car is S-W plate? Probably a 523i or a 528i?

car is 523i W reg, no sports pack- original owner must have put them on. Can you clarify you thinking [TW]Fox ? I know that you have researched these babies to death :D

Not sure how I can tell, should they have a bmw part number at the back if OEM ?

Mine have a part number on the back of the spokes. I'd imagine there should be some sort of marking if it was an OEM part.

I didn't mean Sport pack as in the Sport model with body kit etc. There were various Sports options on the options list for the SE, which included those wheels. Do you have Sport seats in yours by any chance?

I knew what you meant. nope, car is SE.

If wheels turn out to be replica then not sure it will be worth fixing them for the best part of £100, even though the damage looks minimal and I have no vibrations
