I'm pretty sure a long weekend is 3 days anyway.Which i think would be ok depending on the flight times.

Incorrect. The best time to be here is normally last couple of weeks in May/early June or September. Mid-summer is very hot and humid, the winter can be very cold.

I should have been clearer in my OP - by long weekend I mean Fri-Mon. I have also been before so don't need to fit in all the typical places, but I know which ones I want to do again!

Look, I was just suggesting to the OP that 2 days isn't going to cut NY if he's going for the first time. Just like with any holiday, 2 days doesn't cut it, especially in NY. Flights to the Americas cost pretty much double/triple what they are to Europe. Let's not let this get into a financial circumstances debate - no need for it.
Long weekend of 3-4 days can be done. I went in March, which was brill and would recommend going at that time, half T-shirt half jacket weather

We went to NY for a weekend for the first time, it was excellent and yes while we didn't do lots t was a great weekend. So what if it was just 2 days!

When we went for our Honeymoon couple of years ago we were there for two days, three nights, managed to do the big touristy places and walked everywhere so two days is fine. The only things we didn't do were go up the Chrysler and across the Brooklyn Bridge, however we will visit them places next week.
It's always good not to do everything, an excuse to go back
