Best 120mm fan, and noise be damned! ?

Best fans bar the Sanyo Denki are these...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-005-SY&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4

and they work a treat with fan controllers.

Vipers far better -
- High performance 12cm fan in killer VIPER yellow colour
- S-FLOW fan blade design delivers 30% higher airflow
- Super silent with PWM auto speed control
- Hydro Dynamic Bearing extends fan life up to 50,000 hours
- Dimension: 120 X 120 X 25mm
- Fan speed: 600 -1900 RPM
- Max airflow: 83.63 CFM (141.75 m3/h)
- Max static air pressure: 2.98 mm H2O
- Noise level: 6.9 -28.9 dB(A)
- Fan life expectancy: 50,000 hours
- Connector: 4pin PWM

Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan -
- Dim: 120 x 120 x 25mm
- Rated speed: 1600 RPM
- Sound: 28.0 dB(A)
- Air flow: 63.7 CFM
- Bearing: S-FDB

28db(A) are the same apart from that Viper is far better and only a few pence more.

some may find this weird but i actually do not mind the whooshing sound or infact a hoover.as soon as i hear a hoover i start to yawn and could just fall asleep right there.my old pc had a delta and i ran it at about half speed no problems and it drowned out annoying background sounds too! :P but the above video is just awful its not even the sound of air its a damm air raid siren.

the only reason i am going for apache fans is i now value my sennheiser headphones and want to get the full sound out of em without the pc destroying the quality.

Thanks so much guys.
OK maybe the delta MIGHT be overdoing it a little :D

The Fan is through a controller, so I have slowdown options is things DO get a bit too loud.

Like the sound of the akasa's they seem to be able to heft a fair bit of air around without being scary loud.....hair=dryer/vacuum is probably a little too much LOL

When the windows machine is shut down, for a minute or two you'd swear they'd all shut down...takes a while for the ear to recover enough to hear the others LOL.

Make sure your fan controller is up to the job. It'll have written on the packaging the maximum wattage each channel can take.

High powered fans will exceed what cheap controllers are rated to handle. You don't want it to burn out some wiring and cause a fire in your pc.

Says who?
:D

Nah, that's a good point...I had a cheap controller and it was always roasting hot even on the front panel.
Using Akasa controllers from this very E-mporium now.

Lots of new posts to read....I should have remembered we can have a moderate flame war over the shape of mice on here LOL

Do not look at the specs. Try the fan yourself - the S-FLEX is better than the Viper.

HALF THE CFM OF A DELTA ! :D

you said noise be damned you cant back down now !

eek, that was very close to take off!!

Not sure I like the noise of that one, not so much the overall level, as the nasty disagreeable tone of it, that's be a hard one to tune out of your head.

Gives me an idea though, the tube must be FULL of stuff like that, could be a moderately usefull resource...sort of hear before you buy.

Why is the S-flex better than the Viper?

I was looking to improve my temps at 4.2GHz[H50x2 Apache's] had considered various fans but had read about the Viper which is based on the Apache so on that base's as well as the spec l got one, l was one of the 1st to try one so l bid a review -

Review - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18148962

The Viper has become a popular fan on the forums, so something has got to be right!

Ive found the vipers to be pretty good as well, bit quieter than the sharkoon silent eagle 2000's i used to use.

Quick prime blast, push/pull vipers on a prolimatech super mega.
tempj2011.jpg

Idle temps of 34-29-33-29, vipers at 800 rpm ono, all case fans dialled to medium setting on a zalman zm fc1 plus controller, (6 x 1500 rpm case fans).

Scythe Gentle Typhoons. They supposedly work very well on heatsinks with great static pressure and can rival the San Aces to a certain extent from some reviews. Look for the higher rated 1850rpm one if you are not fussed about noise.

I wouldn't trust the manufacturers specs, most of them seem widely optimistic about noise, and noise is very subjective. I find my Apache to be easily audible at anything above 900rpm and rarely fun it full whack unless I'm stress testing.

I just ordered a couple of these for this purpose
Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM Slip Stream 120mm Fan
- Air volume at full speed (12V), CFM ±10% 110.3
- Noise level at full speed (12V), dB(A) 37.0

They are much cheaper at £8 each
and the CFM looks very good.

Going to put one either side on my H50 Rad just while benchmarking. Could never use them day in day out.

a friend bought 2 of these for his noctua cooler on i7 920 @3.8, dropped load temps by about 15-20 degrees vs the noctua fans

Went for the Scythe, being out of stock here I had to pick one up from the world's favourite online tat bazaar. But hopefully they'll have a few of the lower RPM models in stock here when it comes time to do buy in a supply of replacement case fans (making the courier to N.Ireland economic as well ;) ), and if not there are a few other options you've given me that might be in stock.

OCUK loyalty is a terrible thing....I've not built a machine in ages and feel like I'm doing the dirty on OC cos of it LOL...and feel even worse cos I had to buy that fan from the crazy place.
Having said that....I've yet to meet the game that can beat my current beast...still as in sig but running 7-64 instead of vista.....down below 60fps for long (F1 2010 being the exception, but that's a bug rather than performance).

Cheers again guys.

The best fan for the tuniq tower is the stock fan from what I have seen.
Static pressure is the most important thing for the tuniq.

Cheers m8, will do, so long since i ran p95 i forgot about newer versions,:o, tend to use LinX/IBT a bit more now, both of which run 2-3c higher than p95.

EDIT: Just installed and running ver 26.4, gonna let it run for a bit to see if theres any difference in load temps, 2-3c higher per core so far.

Quick blast of ver 26.4, pic taken after 10 mins.

See what you mean w3bbo about temp rise, still pretty much well within safe limits, should push this chip higher tbh:D.
