Hi there, i am selling my trusty dell w2405wfp as i want a new monitor, either the newer dell version or i am keen on the hanns g 27.5"

the use is for pc gaming and im going to buy an xbox slim and connect that via hdmi,

what is the absolute best monitor i can buy for just the purpose of gaming, i can go up to the price of the Dells if needed but the hanns g for the money seems to tick every box,

bigger,
new warrenty,
1920 x1200 ( is a must really......)
hdmi connection.

thanks in advance.

I have the Hanns G 27.5" and I love it. I use it mainly for PC gaming.
BUT....
It does not do 1:1 pixel mapping (or at least it didn't when I attached my PS3 to it) so be prepared to see your Xbox screen images "stretched" to fit 1200 pixels.

consoles cant output above 1080p and anything below your native monitors res looks crap.

if you do get a 27inch, you will forever buying top end GPU's or SLI/crossfire.

I would go for the U2711 considering the current price (£571 inc VAT & del).

It is correct that consoles maximum output resolution is 1080p (1920x1080), but the scaler in the U2711 is pretty good and consoles don't actually render the games in 1080p anyway - so console output will never look as sharp as playing a PC game even with a native 1080p monitor.

But with this slight trade-off you get an amazing resolution for PC gaming - that will make your PC games look stunning and your 5870 should handle.

The extra screen estate and resolution would be really nice and judging from TFTCentral's review, the 27" has better out of the box colours than the 24" and possibly less tinting issues. However it has almost double the amount of input lag at 28.1ms vs 14.4 on the 24". Prad measured an average of 24ms.

A lot of user reports say the input lag isn't an issue though. You may want to read that thread to make sure.

If I were to choose, I'd go for the 27".

Cmndr_andi, you can get the 27" for £523.66 if you buy via a cashback site :)

any hints on where?

if you can figure out who manufactured it. you will know.

imo this rule of not specifiying other retailers is pants :(

freedom of speech anyone? anyways that deal is a proper bargain. maybe OCUK will start selling them at that price. they would be a fool not to!!
