Best 24in monitor on OcUK?

Well, I think I'm going for the samsung then! So many recommendations...and I'm coming from an ancient 19" asus so I think anythings an improvement.

I have had a lot of communication between confused consumers in a similar situation to yourself and almost invariably they have been impressed by the Samsung P2450H (recommended for similar reasons). Just remember that Samsung were originally going to make the model EOL once the B2430 was launched but due to market research and other demands it has become perhaps the most successful monitor to re-launch in 2010.

I am taking the plunge with the samsung. Can't really afford much more than that! Sorry for hijacking your thread slightly! Didn't see the need for another topic as our requirements were almost identical and theres so many 24" monitor topics at the moment! Will report back with how I find the samsung when it arrives.

Just to say that I've been nosing the forums and this thread for a replacement monitor after mine gave up the ghost on Sunday. Ordered the Samsung P2450H from OC yesterday, received today.

First impressions very very pleased, no dead pixels and image quality very good (I'm coming from what is supposed to be a better panel tech).

Would certainly recommend.

Mine arrived today too. Love it. Perfect size, brilliant picture, only problem is i have to use DVI as the picture with HDMI is bad!

Hi all, I need to buy a monitor today or tomorrow. I will be using for gaming and I watch a lot of films [viewing angles are thus very important].

It's between the Benq and the Dell. Any reason I should go for one over the other? £250 is fine for me.

Could someone confirm the panel type for both?

[this is a duplicate post, other was posted in the wrong thread]

Already replied to but I will assume you are referring to the EW2420 not the XL2410:

Have a read of the reviews linked (website if you click my name) for an idea of what to expect from both in games and movies. The Dell is an LG E-IPS and the BenQ is an AUO Optronics AMVA which accounts for many of the differences in image. The BenQ has superior contrast and a slight edge in vibrancy whereas the Dell offers somewhat superior colour reproduction, viewing angles and responsiveness.

Excellent thanks. My mistake, I didn't mean the Benq but the LG W2442 is the other I'm considering. From your reviews the viewing angles look good on the Dell, how about the LG?

Well it has a TN panel so check out the BX2370 review (for example) of what to expect in that regard. It will be no match for the Dell in that department.

OK thanks. I won't go for the LG then. Only other consideration is the Samsung P2450H. If it's not a TN I'd probably go for it. The Dell's 23"-ness rather than 24"-ness bothers me slightly, especially on the film-viewing front.

Have you used many 23" and 24" 16:9 monitors recently? There's not much to it so I wouldn't let this worry you. The P2450H is indeed a TN panel. The EW2420 is fantstic for films, is 24" and isn't a TN panel. Unfortunately there is a lot of variability it seems and responsiveness is also a bit lacklustre for gaming.

The good news is that the U2311H is generally pretty decent for colour accuracy out of the box. The exact settings will vary between individual units but I found it to have a slight warm tint. I would leave the contrast at the default (75 I believe) and set brightness to a comfortable level for yourself. Try setting the RGB channels to something like this:

R= 88
G= 100
B= 94

Look to see if you notice any particular colour cast. You can usually see it on whites although you may see a slight difference in colour temperature across/down the screen. The tint of the monitor (if yours does have one) should be fairly minor, though, and you probably shouldn't worry about it unless you need to do 'colour-critical' work. In that instance a colorimeter would be advised anyway ;).

Thanks for the settings.

I'm having problems thou to be honest. Build quality is the highest I've ever felt on a monitor, the stand is amazing, miles better then my old samsung, and the colors are very bright and crisp, you can really see the detail on photos down to a persons pores.

The bad, whenever i restart my pc, windows will start before the monitor shows any image, if i turn it on and off it takes ages to show up, thats just a little annoying, the worse part is, the menu was locked, so i found out how to unlock it, i did that, the presets and brightness/contrast buttons are working but I can not for the life of me get the OSD menu to show up, i click menu but nothing happens.

Nvm, turning it on and off always works lol :D. man this monitor is a beast , it makes my old samsung look like a little kid, and i thought that one was good
