I know its a tight budget but I have found LCD/Plasma's from both Philips, Samsung and Toshiba for this price range.

Can anyone recommend one? Can't really go above £800 as I'm pushing it getting that!

It will be used for my 360 and PS3.

Thanks

I'm struggling to find £700 right now, not wanting to sell anything to fund for the TV!!

Are LG LCD's decent?

Found a cheapish 42" LG 42LC2D and the reiviews are good, only outputs 1080i instead of p but willing to accept this for the price.

Any reviews welcome.

I wouldnt skimp on price if i were you. You'll regret it. Wait a bit and find the extra funds and get a decent quality probaly slightley smaller sized TV for your money. Nothing worse than a 42" screen with a terrible picture on it.

If you're willing to settle for 40" then get the Samsung LE40R74BD 40" HD Ready LCD TV. It's the best price/performance on the market at the moment for only £750 from a well known online retailer. It's certainly what I would be getting now if i had £750 to spend.

for that sort of money your only going to be buying the old stuff from the decent brands or your going to be cheaping crap.

you would be much better to save a bit more and get yourself a better set.

the best plasmas are the pioneers, but are going to be well out of your price range. The next best plasmas are panasonics, and as stated the 42" is only just out of your price range.

The old LX60 series was plagued with problems so best avoided. Seriously, save up a bit longer for the newer 70 series. Or at worst, settle for the 37inch. Unless you've got a big room, you'll find the 37inch perfectly big enough.

as for LCDs. None of the current 40 or 42 models will be found in this price tag. If your going samsung, your only going to be getting the older 7 series. Most of which are HDMI 1.0 and most models only have the 1. The newer 8 series sports 3 x HDMI 1.3 sockets. The R8 series isnt even the 1080P series either So its old entry level stuff, not even old top level stuff.

Same goes with phillips (they're best 40" LCDs are like £1800 or something daft, they're a pricey brand), your only going to be buying old entry level stuff for this sort of money.

Same goes with the Toshiba's. You're going to be buying a WLT66 for that sort of money. The current (and about to be replaced) WLT 68 is out of your price bracket.

Seriously, either save some more, or compromise on size.

Unless he is planning to keep the LCD TV for more than 5 years I highly doubt he is going to take advantage of HDMI 1.3. The Samsung is the best option really and without an unlimited budget theres no point spending extra £100s just to get technology which won't be utilized for years to come.

its worth it if only for the fact there are 3 of them imho

the R7 series only has the 1 HDMI.

You can get a multi port adapter, which would be much cheaper than spending hundreds more on the TV itself.

oh and not forgetting its the newer model too.

Higher contrast ratio, and they feature samsungs new wide colour enhancer and the new super clear panel.

also, the 32" Samsung's have 3 different panels put in them. all sold as the same thing. They are either S-LCD (samsung) auo or cmo.

The CMO panel used in the 32" isnt S-PVA, and is vastly inferior to the samsung and AUO panels

the CMO panel used in the R8 series is newer and apparently not nearly as inferior to the samsung/AUO panels, as on the R7 series.

Well I'm forking out a bit more and getting the Panasonic TH42px70.

Anything I should know before pressing "buy", anyone got one?

Yeah, I want to wall mount it in the coming months so would have preffered that tbh.

Took delivery of the Panasonic TH42px70 today, all I can say is WOW! Amazing picture quality, really makes my 32" Philips HDTV look so dated. Watched Casino Royale and it looks great, as do the PS3 and 360.

Hooked up the surround sound too so everything is hunky dory!

Here are some pictures, now I know why these TV's recieve such great reviews :)
