Hello all,

Looking for a new TV for around £500 maybe £600
Ideally a 42" and wanting Full HD 1080p if poss.

Not too clued up on latest tech i.e LCD/LED/Plasma and what to go for etc.
I will be using to watch blu-ray movies and looking to hook it up to Satellite/PS3 now and then speakers at a later date so
needing decent outputs (Optical out would be cool).

Wanting a decent brand too like Panasonic, Samsung,Sony or LG?

Also needing a little 19" widescreen for Kitchen for around £100-150

Cheers in advance ;)

I'd advise you to go to the shop and see them yourself. You'll get lots of advise on hear, and most will say Panasonic S20/G20 plasma for that price. The tech you choose is really down to personal preference and the differences need to been seen to be appreciated.

I'm also after a new 42" set and I'm really struggling to find an acceptable 42" LCD/LED TVs. Samsung don't really make 42" TVs.

Sounds like a really good tv.

However, it should be noted that some 2009 models are reported by users as suffering from an issue where black levels rise and image retention is seen. This seems to affect a small (reported on AVForums) number of 2009 TVs in the UK where the issues have been reported to Panasonic. There is no evidence that we have seen with this review sample that the same will occur with 2010 models, although a Panasonic statement in the US states that the technology which is alleged to cause the issues is the same as the 2009 TVs - we have no evidence of this being the same with the UK 2010 TVs at this moment in time. We have also made Panasonic UK aware of the issues for the 2009 TVs. Because of legal issues Panasonic UK has declined at this moment in time to comment further - However readers please check the Plasma TV forum for user feedback of this TV by owners. Again we saw no evidence with the review sample and can only report on the data we have without speculation. No official announcements have been made to date from Panasonic UK confirming or denying these reports of issues with 2009 sets on AVForums or elsewhere.

As I said OP, go and see for yourself. I wasn't impressed by the G20 when I saw it in the flesh.

Cheers chaps appreciate the help, will deffo go have a look myself.

Plasma way to go or? Been reading about the burn in or burn out you get with plasmas so been putting me off slightly. Can anyone here give me any info on this issue?

Looked at reviews on the G20 and it looks the nuts but like Stretch pointed out best to go have a look and compare.

Any other TV's that compare to the panny G20?

Also on the look out for a small 19" or 20" for my kitchen area, any clues on a good one?

Appreciate the info ;)

If your looking at LED/LCD take a look at the LG 42LE5900 and the LG 42LD550 whilst your there. They can both be had for around the £600 mark and I've been told they are good value but haven't had a proper look myself. There are also the 40" LCDs from Samsung of which there are many.

As for other plasmas a lot of people also recommend the LG 50PK350 or LG 50PK590 which can be had for a similar price but as the name suggests are both 50".

Can't say its good as I haven't seen one but Panasonic tx-p42s20b at costco with £80 off currently :o £516. Only like £25 cheaper then amazon, though 5 year warranty with Costco.

Panasonic TV's are so ugly lol :p

The G20 is like £700 though isn't it? So above your budget abit.. I did see that next to the V20, didn't compare at all :S

The Panasonic TX-P50S20B is an excellent Plasma HDTV which produces performance far beyond that of most budget displays. The only measurable inaccuracy is with its Gamma tracking, which means that material viewed on the TV will look very subtly brighter (at points) to the way the producers intended. However, out of all the potential inaccuracies a video display could have, this is probably the most subtle one possible and is really not worth worrying about for 99% of users. Also, consistent with other Panasonic displays, the TX-P50S20B has no film cadence detection at all, which means that film material (except when input from an upscaling DVD or BD player) will suffer from a slight loss of vertical resolution.
Other than these minor issues, it’s a truckload of good news for this cost-conscious HD TV: excellent blacks, crisp motion clarity, perfect screen uniformity, fantastic colour accuracy, excellent greyscale tracking, and no input lag worth worrying about. Panasonic’s budget S20 series of Plasma displays is an excellent alternative to the cascade of lower-quality LCDs in this price range, and is a reminder that high quality Plasma performance is available to suit all budgets — not just to videophiles with deep pockets.
That's the 50", but surely a 42" would just be as good if not better :)
