Best Albums of 2010

Puh, long ass post went missing so I'll cut it down;

Quite a few people in here will enjoy Crooks and Lovers, the Mount Kimbie album from my first post + thanks for reminding me I need to grab the new Crystal Castles album!

I forgot all about the Four Tet album, it's ace, check out the Mount Kimbie album released this year also. :)
;) It is a great album though, I've probably listened to it more than any of the other on my 2010 list...

Some of my favourite albums of the year:

Solar Fields: Altered - Second Movements
More of the same from this chap, and that suits me just fine. Massively chilled out electronica (more chilled than his previous albums). (this guy did the Mirror's Edge soundtrack).

Skunk Anansie: Wunderlust
Whilst not their best album, it's still a decent return to form - I just wish the energy in their live performance transferred into the recorded album!

Mind.In.A.Box: Retro
A unexpected direction after their previous releases, but some real standout tunes.

MC Chris: MC Chris Goes To Hell
Pretty much a re-release of his previous three-part escapade, but much more raw. Great stuff.

Hybrid: Disappear Here
Amazing album, probably their best since Morning Sci-Fi. The album has an obvious cohesion, and fantastic production.

Front Line Assembly: Improvised Electronic Device
Wow. After a billion releases under different guises, it's hard to be shocked by these guys. This album is something different - it's heavier, it's deeper, and there's a few parts that I just didn't expect from FLA.

Dan le Sac & Scroobius Pip: The Logic Of Chance
A great album from this duo - possibly not as good as their first release, but another batch of fantastic lyrics, and some real catchy beats.

Burial: Untrue
Alright - I know, I know - this album was released in 2009. I only first heard it in 2010, and if it wasn't for this minor discrepency, this would be my album of 2010. Utterly amazing.

Avenged Sevenfold: Nightmare
The first I'd heard of these guys, I bought the album after I couldn't get the eponymous track out of my head - and the rest of the album is just as good.

I expect I've forgotten a few greats, and a lot of my favourite albums this year were actually from 2009, as I have been playing catch up!

Skunk Anansie: Wunderlust
Whilst not their best album, it's still a decent return to form - I just wish the energy in their live performance transferred into the recorded album!

Also enjoyed this album, it was pretty good, and was definitely a grower.

I think it's where I'd expected them to go though, I'm not sure the old Skunk would work today really, which is a shame but this is still a good record for sure.

Plan B - Defamation of Strickland Banks

Not sure if its the best but its definately up there, I love many songs on it
Got this for my Christmas, fantastic album.

Going to get Arcade Fires based on the number of people mentioning them here and LCD Soundsystem as well since I didn't realise they had a new album out.

Devil Sold His Soul - Blessed & Cursed
Rolo Tomassi - Cosmology
Deer Hunter - Halycon Digest
The Chariot - Long Live
Agalloch - Marrow of the Spirit
The National - High Violet
The Ocean - Anthropocentric

Honourable mention goes to Kanye West!

I've just ordered the Klute, Caribou & Gold Panda albums after your post, all of which I'd never heard of :)

i only got 2 new albums this year... :o

Four Tet - There Is Love In You
The Bird And The Bee - Interpreting The Masters Volume 1: A Tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates

oh and the caribou album. but that was a load of *****. :D

Agalloch - Marrow of the Spirit

Can't get enough of this band at the moment, simply amazing.

I agree. Though I really find the clean vocals so much better than the harsh stuff. It's a bit jarring. I am a metal fan and i like harsh vocals, but it just doesn't sit entirely right with me with Agalloch, ruins the atmosphere a bit in my opinion.

Either:
Parkway Drive- Deep Blue
Bring Me The Horizon- There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret
A Day To Remember- What Seperates Me From You
Nothing else really stands out for me

Top Bottom
