Best and Worst team of the season so far

Not sure about a whole 11, but standouts for me so far are nasri, modric, vdv, carroll and elmander.

Get rid of Modric, move VDV into the centre and put Bale on the left wing - after all he been the best left sided player this season.

While VDV and bale get most of the plaudits, in my opinion Modric has been Spurs best player this season. Most of the creative moves come through him. And with Palacios in midfield who seems intent on giving the ball away, Modric is the reason we are able to have our fair share of possession in games, Villa away with 10 men being one example.

I'll throw Milner into the mix for featuring in the worst team, he's proved what an utterly rubbish over hyped one season wonder he is and worth not even a quarter of what was paid for him in the summer - embarrassed so many United fans wanted us to sign him :o

Absolutely awful tonight for City against Arsenal

"Get rid of Modric"? Really? I'm not a Spurs fan, but even I can see how crucial Modric is to that team in distributing the ball and dictating the tempo of games. There is a reason why Modric is the highest-paid Spurs player...

I am a Villa fan, and Milner was superb for us last season and deserved his plaudits. The problem with him at Man City is this - last year O'Neill deployed him in the centre of midfield after Barry left (to city as well, lol) and he was a revelation. But as a winger he is okay but nowhere near as effective. At City however he is never going to get an extended run in the side in the centre of midfield, as there are better players in front of him.

Dont agree with that, Mancini just doesn't have the balls not to play 3 holding midfielders :o

Modric was probably offered a lot of money to tempt him to WHL over other clubs, VdV and Modric are two very different players and both have their place in any squad. Modric is fantastic at picking out runs where VdV gives the opposition a constant hard time and is extremely tenacious and is exactly what Spurs need. Easily signing of the season, he has adjusted to the English game exceedingly well. Spurs need a proper centre forward, that's the only thing we are lacking oh and a left back now that Bale has been pushed to midfield. Pav goes from excellent to average and Crouch just seems completely out of it, the offside goal against Everton was proper LOL, he didn't check his run and was about half a mile down the pitch.

So says the Guardian;

Best (according to their readers)

GK: Kingston (Blackpool)

RB: Sagna (Arsenal)
CB: Ferdinand (Man Utd)
CB: Vidic (Man Utd)
LB: Baines (Everton)

RM: Nasri (Arsenal)
CM: Holden (Bolton)
CM: Modric (Spurs)
LM: Van Der Vaart (Spurs)

CF: Elmander (Bolton)
CF: Carroll (Newcastle)

Worst

GK: Gomes (Spurs)

RB: Johnson (Liverpool)
CB: Squillaci (Arsenal)
CB: Stearman (Wolves)
LB: Ilunga (West Ham)

CM: Ireland (Aston Villa)
CM: Cattermole (Sunderland)
CM: J.Cole (Liverpool)

CF: Balotelli (Man City)
CF: Torres (Liverpool)
CF: Saha (Everton)

Dont agree with either list tbh

Ferdinand in the best  he hasn't been any great shakes this year. Nor has Kingson. Surprised Berbatov wasn't in the best team but Carroll/Elmander have been good.

Shocked at seeing Gomes, Balotelli and Cattermole in worst team. They haven't been astounding but not that bad. Should be Green, Rooney andRamires instead. All 3 have been shocking.

Saying all this you could just make the worst team Liverpool minus Reina and you wouldn't be far off :p

for me best would be;

Gk: Hart (City)

Def: Sagna (Spurs)
Def: Kompany (City)
Def: Cahill (Bolton)
Def: Enrique (Toon)

Mid: Nasri (Arsenal)
Mid: Holden (Bolton)
Mid: Modric (Spurs)

SS: Van Der Vaart (Spurs)

ST: Carroll (Toon)
ST: Berbatov (ManU)

Not true, Modric signed a new 6 year contract earlier in the year. I agree with you that VDV has been signing of the season however, and that a genuine top class CF would be lethal in that spurs team. Someone like Suarez would be perfect, but the problem is players like him would command huge wages and Spurs dont currently have a wage structure comparable with Man Utd/Arsenal/Chelsea/Man City. In fact, wages could soon become a problem for Spurs - Bale and VDV will need BIG new contracts at the end of this season. Bale in particular will probably need to become the highest earner on at least 80 or 90k a week to keep him away from the big boys eyeing him (Modric is currently top earner on 70k/week. VDV is rumoured to be on 40k/week, which is incredible value for Spurs).

I think Milner too should play CM as against Juve in CM he was fantastic, he doesnt have the skill to play on the wing.

You mean 1 holding, yeh? De Jong is the only holding midfielder, Barry may not seem to stray forward a lot but he is not a holding midfielder and Yaya and Silva are 'Attacking' midfielder's.
