Best bumper case for Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung really need to review the people on their design team. As a piece of technology, the S4 is great. As a phone to physically handle.. it's just ludicrous. There is no surface on it that is grippable. I've had the phone simply slip out of my hands a number of times now. And if you try to hold it with one hand, you will inevitably touch the screen or the menu/back button with your palm because of the tiny bezel. And don't even get me started on those resistant-less volume and power buttons.

So.. since getting the phone I have been looking for a suitable bumper case. I've been through four cases so far. The first was by Spigen costing £18. It was kind of nice but the black back attracted too much dust/dirt and didn't look nice. The next three were all from China. One had a transparent plastic back, which I enjoyed for a couple weeks but eventually the poor quality bugged me too much. Another had no back but the plastic/rubber frame was degrading quickly. The last was one piece of rubber that felt a little too much like a condom.

Does anyone have any recommendation?

  • Preferably no back, just a frame.
  • Makes the phone easier to grip.
  • Reduces the chance of accidentally pressing the screen or power and volume buttons.

I agree with your comments, SG4 is the only phone I've dropped, and not even just once.

First day of owning it it scuffed the case, now recently I have shattered the rear camera module.

I have the Spigen Neo Hybrid for my S4. It is nice, but I've yet to find a charger that fits! Have to keep bending off the case to charge.

The Neo covers up my scuff marks.

So no suggestions from me, also interested in recommendations.

My other half has a Spigen Slim Armor View on her S4. It's certainly saved the phone on more than one occasion, but the quality isn't great.

It appears to have a protective layer peeling off the hard plastic bits and the clip that holds the front shut snapped. Still works fine other than that.

I got this case as soon as I got the phone, has definitely saved it from being smashed a couple of times. I found that the standard cable works absolutely fine, but others don't fit.

I took a chance and bought a Zenus Walnutt flip jacket.
Its like two cases in one; the outer bit clicks on and can be easily removed. Cost me £19 on the big river and is really sturdy and good quality. Charger etc fits without a problem.
Looked at loads and is superior to the offical Samsung cases at twice the price. Thought the SPigen stuff looked good too but too pricey.
