Hi all

I have:
AMD 3700+ san diego
2GB DDR400 RAM
ASROCK Dual PCI-X & AGP
Geforce 6800NU
Hiper Type R 580W

Right, i also have £170 to spend on a new video card, i mainly play css and bf2. I'd like to play both with a fiar bit of AA and AF to make it look nice and pretty and keep nice FPS.

All suggestions would be nice, im not biased between nvida or ATI, but i would like the best bang for buck ;)

Thanks all

X1800XT / X1900GT

/thread tbh. :)

Reasons:

- Fast
- Cheap
- Better value than a 7900GT
- Arguably better image quality
- Should be at least twice as quick as your current card.
- Will also leave you with change

:)

Connect3D X1800XT or HIS X1900GT IceQ 3 would be perfect. :)

The only true difference there is the cooler, the IceQ 3 is much cooler and quieter than the stock cooler.

either way stay clear of the failure prone 7900.
Didn't you say in my mini-FAQ twice that I had stopped you from "making the big mistake" of buying an ATI X1000 series over a 7900GT and that you had a 7900GT on order?

thanks for the info all, without all the messing like in the other threads, which of these 2 will give me the best performance in BF2 and CSS? just these 2 games ;)

thanks guys, you've confirmed my buy. Just need to wait for the payment from selling a motherboard and RAM on the bay to come through to my bank account and i'll be well away ;)

But you just recommended an X1800XT over a 7900GT. I thought that was "a big mistake."

Out of interest, have you tried unlocking and overclocking your 6800nu? Mine fully unlocks to 16/6 and also clocks nicely as well - really helps a lot with AA. It's a very easy procedure (2 second job with Rivatuner) and might be worth a try before you splash the cash :)

What's the point of even trying? :p

He's blatently talking out of his backside. Theres no point in even listening to it.. I've just come to terms with the fact that practically everything he says is incorrect.

Ouch, I would personally say that's a little harsh but I don't really know the guy so I could be wrong. :p I am just curious as to why he's saying completely contradictory things in different threads, it's kinda' suspicious.

Anyway, let's forget it. :) I shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place and it's beginning to de-rail the thread. :(

Come on guys, i dont care about what someone says now and what he's said before. I just needed a hand. Something must have made him change his mind, no ? ;)

As for my 6800NU, i was right in there as soon as rivatuner was capable of unlocking pipes, unlocking the pipes gave me artifacts, I could unlock the extra vertex shader, but didn't notice much of a difference in performance. Every now and then i overclock the vid card, but its just not worth it. I can get 50-80Mhz on core and mem, but no matter what i do, CSS is just a harsh game and my 6800 is dieing trying to run it.

Im using a config which removed everything to give me 60fps constant'ish I think my 6800 may be a bit dud, really not sure. It needs upgrading anyway so im going to go for it.
