Well time barriers are important, or else I could be voting for Carragher from 5 years ago.
But you're not voting for the player he was then, you're voting for the player he is now. If he's still to this day one of the two best CB's, you pick him. If he's not, you don't.

Would you take me seriously if I put Giggs forward as the best winger? He's certainly done a lot over the years to be the best at many times, as of today he's way past that though isn't he.

Well it is a no contest then, can't vote for Vidic since he has barely played 2 seasons has he?

Also lol@people voting for Terry

Should be fairly obvious the assumption is they're all fit and performing to the best of their ability. Maybe when Vidic comes back he won't be the same player, no way of knowing that yet. Although I would concede if he were out much longer it would be difficult to consider him for this.

Vidic played pretty much every game the year before and would have done the same this year if he didn't get injured, so it's not as if it's been a really long time frame to be unable to make a judgement.

I'm not sure if it's possible but we really need to be able to vote twice if the results of these votes are being used to construct a team. Vidic and Kompany might be considered the best CB's in isolation but that doesn't mean they're the best partnership (I don't think so anyway).

On the basis that I think you need a ball playing CB in your side (alongside either Vidic or Kompany), I've picked Agger.

I still think the Vidic love is hilarious, any time I think up a list of the prem league's CB's most likely to be caught out and make some ridiculous red card tackle, Vidic is vying with the likes of Caldwell, Bramble, Djourou, etc, as the worst offender on the list.

He gets a few red's, deserves a heck of a lot more, and consistently gets himself in a position where he has to smash a player over and risk a red card. Hint, great defenders don't get in those situations, Kompany got a BS red, and barely if ever risks getting one with the way he plays. Kompany is exceptionally good(well done Wenger for tracking him for years and not putting in a 5mil bid ;) , especially having since then wasting triple that on worse defenders ), vidic isn't anywhere near, and Caragher 5 years ago wasn't anywhere near the best CB in the league either, Caragher has never, ever been that good, of course alongside Henchoz he didn't look as bad a screw up.

More lol's, Kompany is very comfortable in central midfield, VERY comfortable on the ball, he's much better on the ball than Agger as it is. Kompany frequently runs it out and goes around a few players before playing a good ball.

I think that would be a preference rather than a necessity. Kompany and Vidic are both as good with the ball as they need to be, it's not like they're a pair of CB's with two left feet. Kompany also did more than fine with Lescott as a partner, I don't think he has anything that Vidic doesn't.

It's true, he is prone to occasional crazy moments, I think think you're just immune to appreciating the beast that he is 99% of the time :p.

Wow, so Vidic gets the odd red card and he's dismissed as being rubbish.

I sometimes agree with you but you're way off here, irrational hatred and then some.

although kaboul is far from the finished article, he has progressed very well.

still, kompany is immense and by far the best in the league all round. an absoloute bargain to boot too.

Kompany and Vidic as the ones I would have in my starting 11.

I think the OP should add koscielny to the list. He has been nothing short of superb this season

It is kind of crazy that one of the already established top clubs didn't take a chance on Kompany, the guy had an excellent reputation years before he ever moved to City.

Obviously a fit Vidic and Kompany are a class apart (voted Kompany) but Kaboul deserves a spot on the poll, think he is better or at least as good as than the likes of Skrtel and Vermaelen. Spurs most improved player this year.
