Best diesel for 3k

Why must it be a diesel?

£3k is a hard budget. It isn't really enough to get the properly decent generation of diesels such as something with a Vag TDI PD 130/150 engine or the Mondeo TDCi 130, but it's really too much to spending on old HDi Xantia's and 406's.

I am sure if you haggled hard you could easily find an outgoing shape Mondeo for 3k. Ford really may as well not put any prices on the cars they sell in the dealerships, they pretty much ask you how much you can pay and if that is vaguely profitable for them they will sell you the car.

Last week I went into the Ford dealer and they had a 3 year old Mondeo that I was just browsing through with 40k on the clock for about £7.5k; without me even opening my mouth the salesman was offering it for 5.5k with a 2 year warranty and 6 months tax thrown in.

Then at the weekend I actually bought a new Focus and ended up getting the car for £5050 off the list price.

There is simply no way you will get a Mk3 Mondeo TDCi for £3k at any Ford dealer. I'd be fairly confident to state they won't sell you any Mk3 Mondeo for £3k as the sort to be worth £3k is the sort they wont normally retail.

Yeah I agree you might not find it at a main dealer, but there are plenty of car dealerships that specialise in cheaper cars.

Here is another thought; At auction in Edinburgh there was a 2003 Mondeo TDCi with 204k on the clock, it went for £800!
