What do you think are the best games of the last 12 months? I haven't bothered buying any games lately as my system wasn't up to playing them at decent settings. Upgrades should be here tomorrow so want to start catching up. :)

I'm into FPS, Action/adventure, RPG's and RTS mostly, although I'll give anything a try if it's really good.

Here are a few to get your teeth into :)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl (Stalker)
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
DOW: Dark Crusade
Battlefield 2142
HL2 + Episode One
Splinter Cell: CT
Rainbow 6 Las Vegas

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has been on my comp for a while but looks/performs badly atm, along with oblivion it's one of the main reasons I upgraded. :)

The BF series I could never get into, DOW looks interesting, dl'ing that and the Splinter Cell demo now. Is there no demo for R6 Vegas, I couldn't find one. :(

Ohh, didn't think about Sup Com, demo on the way now. I managed to put up with bad FPS in CoH though as the game was bloody awesome. Cheers for the suggestions.

Company of Heroes and that's about it sadly. For me, anyway.

Don't see how Stalker got suggested - if anything it was a huge disappointment on what I had expected for it. And the gameplay is horrible.

I found the gameplay pretty fun from what little I've played of it, it's just the frame rates are too low to enjoy it properly. :(

I didn't really like the feel of it at all - seemed very 'clunky' or something. Although thats been a regular problem with some games I've played - felt the same about Red Orchestra.

Wasn't Stalker meant to have vehicles and stuff?

I love the atmosphere in the game, gritty, dirty, oppressive feel to it which suits the setting imo.

It was meant to have vehicles but I guess they got cut due to time/money constraints. Maybe they'll be in Stalker 2, I guess we'll find out in 2018. :p

Well, some of these might not be in the last 12 months, but just games played recently for first time.

Ghost recon advanced warfighter
Oblivion
Prey
Tom raider legend
R6:Vegas (fun enough, but a sloppy port job)
F.E.A.R & Extraction point

Could not get into:
Stalker
Supreme commander

Still to try
C&C3
tomb raider anniversary (hopefully arriving today)

Forgot about Prey too, was that any good? I had the demo ages ago and it looked very good, is it based on the F.E.A.R. engine as it looked similar?

Hmm, I'm beginning to think my sense of disenchantment is because of the lack of a playable net connection. Most games that seem to have done well recently seem to be games that come alive with multiplayer.

Bloody net :/

Aye, most of the games I've played the most over the last few years are either fully online or have really good online play.

I thought STALKER was a total let down also.

Played for about an hour and it did feel clunky it kinda reminded me of Boiling point, which was another let down (although not as much as STALKER and it did have vehicles)

You would have thought the amount of time spent on STALKER it would have been a really polished game. The only FPS ive really enjoyed was FEAR in the last 12 months it had the pace I like to the gameplay and although there was a few bugs and the MP got a little boring after a while, I still enjoyed it. If FEAR MP had a more teamwork aspect with classes/objectives similar to RTCW/ET I would still be playing it today.

All new FPS seem to either be trying to include vehicles or adding role playing elements into them. The vehicles/gameplay in Battlefield totally put me off, I really like to run and gun and prefer firefights on the ground and knowing that you can kill anyone if you are good enough. What good is being a medic for example and faceing a tank, you know you cant destoy it and just have to hide and rely on someone else to take it down. Again rank ups do not appeal to me.

I think the more 1 hit weapons/vehicles you add to a FPS the more you take away from it in MP.

I still think to this day that RTCW was the most balanced game Ive ever played online. The only 1 hit weapons were either nades (which everyone had) panzer (which had a longish reload time) and air strikes/artillery which again had time bar and took few seconds to go off after the smoke. The maps were great too.
