Hi Guys,

What are people’s thoughts on what is the best gaming desktop about for around £1000? Ideally using an i7 chip and dx11

Cheers and Thanks

For gaming, which ever is cheaper. As a purely gaming machine, these CPUs (when at stock frequencies) peform similarly, the 965 may even have the edge. But this doesn't really matter because in modern games the graphics card will limit the performance before either of these CPUs do.

I totally agree with Ritsugamesh's suggetsion for machine, its on a cracking offer this week - well worth getting (with an upgraded GPU and Case).

The i7 is the better processor even @ stock in my opinion, anything that pushes the CPU more than the GPU and i7 tends to turn out on top. As soon as you start push that i7 just alittle higher than stock it starts to rape the 965 (as it should for the price).

If you want a rig purely for gaming, go for the cheaper i5 route and use the saved money for perhipherals; maybe decent sound. A 5870 sat on a clocked i5 will run games within about 5% of an i7 at the same speed.
