My best gaming memories were bonding with friends over the Amiga 500. I'm not advocating it these days, trading and copying games. I think that was the main reason the Amiga still has a big following today.

Any game loading first time on my zx48k used to make me dance around like an idiot out of sheer joy.

I'm tempted to say until the cassette tape stopped and you had to re-start the tape again. But I'm not sure if that was just a C64 thing, or if it happened with all cassette based systems?

Lots of great memories:

Duck Hunt on the NES with the light gun
4 player Golden Eye and Perfect Dark on the N64
Riding out onto the main field in Zelda OoT
Dune 2 on our first PC
Unreal Tournament and Diablo 2 at Uni
Tanya in C&C Red Alert 2 (saucy minx!)
Quake 2 after slapping a Voodoo 2 in my parents PC
Loading into Wake Island for the first in BF1942
As said above, looking out on the Wasteland in Fallout 3
Finishing Witcher 3 and all the DLC

So so many.

Will start with an early one,

The Secret of Monkey Island on the Amiga 500.

Was a young lad with no access to the Internet just gaming mags, so would get stuck for weeks if not months with either the hope of finally getting it or a hint would pop up in a Amiga mag. You would think that sounds annoying but it completely cemented my love of gaming.

So so many on the PS1

Tekken 2 & 3 with friends, some right heated moments lol

Wipeout 2097 blew our minds.

Resident Evil, as others made me jump and I loved it.

Three mates taking turns on Tomb Raider to complete it.

FFVII taking over my summer! (More than once)

FFVIII that intro.

Playing Toca Touring Cars linked up.

Then my run into PC gaming and the world of online multiplayer and competitive play with Quake 2, Unreal Tournament, CS 1.6

The love gaming is still going strong after some 30yrs!

I used to go to a big market every Sunday with my Dad and we would spend ages picking out games from a couple of stalls, all copies. Not an original in sight! Not a clue what we were going to be playing that night lol

I do think when you have played too many games that the same old thing can become quite stale. That's why now I try to play old back catalogue games that I have missed.

If I had to pick a top 5 it would be

N64 4 player. We used to rotate going to each others house and have game days with friends where we would play 4 player N64 all day. This was continued into the Gamecube generation although kind of fizzled out as we started to get older.

RA2/Yuri's revenge. My first proper foray into competitive online play. Loved it to bits. worked very well on 56K connection.

Xbox 360 online. It was the last fresh moment for me. The great thing that a headset was included meant that VOIP was very common and some proper laughs were had. First proper social online system that just worked. Forza 2, Bad Company 1+2 being highlights for me.

05-06 World of Warcraft. Some truly epic moment over those two years and the best game I have ever played..

Lan Parties. Counterstrike, CnC etc. I do kind of miss those days. I guess Lan Cafe's have died a death as people are just too lazy to get off their backsides and socialise for real these days.

I remember buying Starcraft as it had better networking options than C&C, and hooking up my serial cable for that first multiplayer RTS experience was magical. I never went back to C&C after that as it just couldn’t compare for multiplayer.

I haven't really got any or the list would be too long, I pretty much enjoyed most games back in the 90s and early/mid 00s. Im not so keen on most games now days though because the majority are rehashes or sequels. So originality that we had a while back is very rare now.

Mine is a long time ago, the original Playstation 1, resident evil loaded up and what a blast.

The game actually made me jump, I have played a lot of great games but that will never be beaten.

Same - the video intro and then the 1st zombie turning and looking at you - unforgettable moment and truly a classic.

Felt similar with MGS on the PS1 too.

I've written it on another thread previous but will say again. I was a firm PS fan boy, had the 1 then the 2 and didn't want to entertain the Xbox however I bought one cheap from a lad I worked with, came with Halo that I played through once and didn't touch again. The machine sat dormant for months. I got myself a network adapter for the PS2 along with SOCOM Navy Seals to play online. It was such a faff on, couldn't get it going but had run some CAT 5 cables under the floor boards form the modem to my games room in preparation and didn't want the effort to be in vain so plugged one into the Xbox and the thing just came alive. It updated to the latest dashboard and a world of online gaming awaited, couldn't believe how easy it was to get going. Bought Rainbow Six 3 as that's what my mate played and that was it. Had every version of each xbox since, day one purchases.

Other than that other moments that stand out:
  • Getting a cheat code and my name published in C&VG magazine for infinite lives on Target Renegade.
  • Goldeneye 4 player. The best.
  • Completing Double Dragon in the arcade using money my pal had stolen from his Dad
  • Playing Blood and Truth on PSVR - I'd never used VR before. Blown away.
  • Giving my PS memory card to my mate to get the A licences for me in Gran Turismo
  • Barn Doors opening in RDR :(
  • GTA 3 - complete game changer

I remember my best mate at the time getting the Amiga 500 Batman pack on Christmas day, going over-even though it was Christmas day.
absolutley blown away, up until till that point just playing Commodore 64.
Amiga was somthing else, a whole new level.
I soon convinced my father to buy one, with the ram upgrade, that I used to take round my mates, purposley leaving the upgrade bay cover off, so it was quicker to install. I used to love the "1Meg detected" screens that Shadow of the beast, lemmings, amongst others used to show.
Good times.

Although this is the console subforum, my best gaming memories were probably my first venture into MMORPG on PC with RuneScape.

I remember being about 16 and clans PvP'ing in wars was quite a popular thing. At its best time some of the big wars had 250v250, and you were absolutely bricking it if the opposing clan had targeted you first, as you'd struggle to last a couple of minutes. Some wars allowed for unlimited returns (basically until everyone ran out of armour/food/time) which meant some wars dragged on for 6-8 hours

I think the best time for me was shortly after secondary school, made some online friends when I started playing Saints Row 1 online with a mic then went onto play Burnout Paradise and many laughs were had. Nearly every night with this guy we played Burnout.

When I went to college and met more online friends, 2 guys from Brooklyn and played Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for a good few years. I haven't heard from the first guy since he was about 19 when I was 21 or so. Never found a way to contact him since I disabled my original account when I sold my 360, has to be a way to find the contact list?

I think I found the guys from Brooklyn since I searched for his username on the Xbox App but he never replied which was kinda sad, i was so close to reuniting with him. I am 99% sure that was him.
