Best gaming Musical scores/soundtracks

MMORPGs are often overlooked but they have produced some absolutely amazing soundtracks over the years.

World of Warcraft - The Burning Crusade & Lord of the Rings Online - The Mines of Moria are probably the two best for me.

I started gaming way back in the Commodore 64 and i'm all that I time I have probably played 1000's of games but I can not remember one sound track at all. But then I don't listen to music.

I turn off music in games too. But the music on 'The Last Ninja' on the C64 was excellent.

And although it's not a musical score as such, the notes played in 'The Sentinel' on the C64 when you were absorbed always stick with me...

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Mechwarrior 2 yet

I liked the music on Mechwarrior 2. But that was the first game I played that let you add your own music on CD as you played. 'Go' by Moby worked really well on that.

The other PC game which has already been mentioned is Guild Wars. That was the one game where I usually left the music on...

I know I'm quoting myself which is probably unacceptable, but just listen to this link and the music from The Last Ninja by Ben Dalglish. It's amazing what he achieved through such simple tecnology.

All of it is amazing, but listen from 4:21 onwards to get past the intro...

Silent Hill series (easily)
NFS II & NFS III
Journey
Shadow of the Colossus
MGS 3
Limbo
The Last of Us

Edit: Actually, I'm surprised no one mentioned SH;p

I was just scrolling through the thread thinking "it'd be an absolute travesty if nobody has mentioned Silent Hill", until I came across your post.

Akira Yamaoka is an absolute genius!

Some great tunes in the MGS series, also.

I can't do it now, as I am at work, but when I get home I will post a blast from the past that any true gamer over 25 years old should recognise. :D

There have been loads of great game scores/soundtracks over the years but my top 3 have to be:

Unreal Tournament
Homeworld 2
Hotline Miami

Blast from the past, anyone? The most memorable part hits at around 45 seconds. If you've never sat for literally 10 minutes, listening to this whilst waiting for a game to load from a cassette tape....well, you've never lived! :D

A few favourites.

Akira Yamaoka. Enough said!

Love this!

Classic!

Amazing! I have no idea what she's singing about, but1:10 onwards gives me chills and flashbacks to Shadow Moses every time.

I could do this all night...
