My friend needs a new GFX card, and has £50 to spend, here are his requirements:

needs to be quiet
has to have TV out
dual displays
plays Half Life 2
AGP
directx 9

He is willing to go second hand, what would be your suggestions?

around that you could get a 9800 Pro with arctic cooler, or a 6600? Not sure what they go for second hand and whether they have silent options.

That's asking quite a bit.

Sapphire X1300 256MB DDR AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-119-SP)
Price: £64.95 (£76.32 Including VAT at 17.5%)

XFX GeForce 6200 256MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (PVT44AWAH6) (GX-047-XF)
Price: £39.95 (£46.94 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Neither card is exactly stunning though should manage HL2 if you keep the detail down.

It's a shame you didn't look at the OcUK b-grade/clearance sections last week - I picked up a Asus V9999 6800 for £40 and there were many other great deals there too. :(

I would go for something along the lines of a Radeon 9800 Pro for that price though, if you look in the members market you should be able to get one of those. :)

I personally wouldnt touch anything with turbocache etc. Uses your pc ram and just a poor experience imo. Although my mate has a 6200 and it runs WoW and HL2 without problems (low detail though).

This is a beast of a card for the money:

**B Grade** Asus ATI Radeon 9800/TVD Pro 256MB & Half Life 2 Bundle - Retail (BG-036-AS) Price: £50.00 (£58.75 Including VAT at 17.5%)

What would a NVIDIA Geforce 7300GS 256MB perform like in wow? Or in general.

It would probably be fine for WoW which is a pretty undemanding game graphically, for other recent PC games I would personally aim a little higher!

PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-054-PC)

It's £76.32 but would knock several spots off the 7300 iirc

For something like Half Life 2, the best you can do is an X800 with ATi or a 6600GT for minimum playable framerates without everything looking like bricks. :)

There are silent options for the 6600GT, but both cards will probably exceed £50... especially the X800 :( Else, it's the older Radeons...

On offer or something I noticed the other day. it was either in this week only or clearance.

9600Pro 128MB for £23.50.

He'd be likely happy with that, it fits his minumum spec, and its cheap as chips. Should run HL2 at medium to high, 1024x768 pretty nicely as long as the rest of his PC isnt s****y central

Vote for the 6600GT, on bay for £60 second hand. You did miss out last week as they were on special on ocUK for £40 NEW. Dam I paid £60 for S/Hand 1 week earlier

Its a cracking card for the money
