Best graphics card for £140

ATI 5770 - jumped from 9800GT. Big difference. I can play 1920x1080 maxed out on a lot of games i play. If your going higher resolution go for the 4890 as said above.

I would go 5770 or 4890, 4890 is a brill card (had one) the 5770 for dx 11 but i don't know if it runs dx11 games ok? I know it does in crossfire tho.

The 4890 is more powerful.

The 5770 is roughly equivalent to a 4870, but has advantages alredy pointed out:
* Significantly lower power consumption (which is also handy if you plan on adding a second later in crossfire)
* quieter
* The next gen of cards, supporting DX11, so will support nicer graphics in newer games (assuming it can run them!)
* Other minor features like supporting Eyefinity which you'll probably never use

If you're running really high resolution (like 1920x1200 or higher) *and* demand every ounce of power you can get, go for the 4890.
But otherwise, the 5770 is by far the more sensible choice.

Yeah 5770 is more sensible. Even more so if your mobo can support Crossfire, as you could put in another later on for more performance.:)

Imho by the time there are any decent DX11 titles out, the 5770 wont be powerful enough - you would end up putting it back to DX9/10, just as you would have dropped to DX9 on an 8800GT with Crysis.

4890. A 5770 isnt a big enough step up from a 8800GT to make it worth upgrading in the first place imho.

My two lads went from 8800GT's to a 5770 and i was very surprised (and relieved) how much better they were :)

I agree, 5770 is the card to get right now for your budget, although actually I think now is about the worst time to be buying a new GFX card. I currently have my new build on hold waiting for things in the gFX market to sort themselves out. The ATI cards are clearly the one to get at the moment but ! I think the manufacturing problems and lack of nvidia competition has grossly inflated the prices of the 5xxxx series. Once nvidia finally pull their fingers out their arses and get fermi out and when TSMC get their process sorted out things will look very different. The only trouble is in the mean time it just means either waiting or buying a card that will do for now.
In the case of the latter (which is how I'm currently thinking) I think actually the better card to get is an nvidia card, so when the time comes to get the all singing all dancing monster card you desire the old nvida card can be used for physx.

Can i just ask...
how come its all ATI lol? There's not been one nVidia comment yet? What about a GTX 260?

im not biased either way... i was just wondering why? :)
