Hey guys,

I am using some oldish components to build a second pc mainly for my gf. It will be based on the Shuttle SG41J1 Plus which has a 250watt psu. I currently have a 8800GT that I could put in it but I wanted something that could deliver a performance. What is the best graphics card that you would recommend on this power restriction? I was thinking either a 5770 or a 7750.

Cheers

AMD 7770 will work fine - This card is very efficient and use less power than a 8800GT.

AMD 7850 should work as well but it might be pushing it. This uses less power than a 8800GT most of the time but does use slightly more when under full load.

8800GT vs 7770
8800GT vs 7850

Great,

Thanks for that. The other option I guess is to wait for Nvidia's offerings from the 600 series cards. If the 680 is anything to go by they seem to be nice and efficient.

I wouldn't risk running anything that requires a 6 pin adapter or more on a 250W.

I would go for something like the 7750 which doesn't require a 6 pin adapter.

I have the 5770 and the newer 7750 keeps up with it nicely. That is what I would recommend.

+1 to the 7750, it doesn't need any power connectors so it's by far the best performing card that doesn't require extra power. However still, on a 250w... Should be fine though if it's Shuttle. Might be best to drop back to a 6670 to be on the safe side though.

Thanks guys, will bare the 6 pin adapter point in mind. 7750 looks like the way to go then, still tempted to wait on Nvidia's up and coming offerings though!
