i bought the koss "porta pro" phones last year and they were awesome - recommended by you guys
they have now died from over-use (the foamy bits have all torn off)
shall i get the same pair again or is there another decent cheap set thats as good/better/newer?

I've used the Sennheiser CX300 for over a year now and they are very very good for their value (can be had for £17.99inc or less if you search)

They are bass driven, very warm bass, IMO, bit weak on the treble but a quick EQ edit on my iPod to boost Treble makes this pair of headphones sound like a dream.

I've also recently started using the Ultimate Ears Metro.Fi 2 and they are brilliant too - more expensive than the CX300 but it gives much clearer mids and treble but compared to the CX300, it's bit weaker on the bass - so get this pair if you're not a bass head and want clearity esp to the vocals and ambient sound in the music. One this about the Metro.Fi is the smallest in ear buds don't fit me proper - but a quick replacement with a Sony in ear buds (provided by my mobile phone made it work like a charm)

Build quality, the Metro.Fi is much better in terms of the earphones and wires (much thicker and "sturdier) but the phones on the Metro.Fi is (IMO) too big for comfort listening over extended periods compared to the tiny tiny CX300s.

I personally use the CX300 for outside listening and when I'm at home chilling for a few hours, I use my Metro.Fi.

Koss have a lifetime guarantee... get in touch with them they should help you out.

The CX300 aren't even in the same league as the Koss Porta Pro, personally, I don't think the PX100s are either.

I've got some of these and they are great.

I'm saving up for some HD 650's tho.

What's your budget for new cans?

Panzer

Also -

Do you like open or closed cans? What type of music do you listen to?

Without really knowing this I can recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro's. They've by far been my favorite set of headphones and sound very good. I have at the moment a pair of Audio Technica ATH A900 Arthouse headphones which I find are lacking in bass.

hmm
i liked the porta pros, because they are portable, surprise surprise, but i also want my new headphones to be quality enough for studio work. i am not looking to spend much over £30, though, and i want them to be compact like the koss's
i contacted them about the guarantee - we'll see
