Best IT lesson ever...

Hurr durr they do not teach It like they used to.
Up to 16 anything to do with computers is a fippin waste of time, any computer literate person is at a complete disadvantage because they end up making you go through "Now double click on the shortcut" and "The internet is a evil place" All day.

To be honest, Laptops should be banned in class unless you get to use them in exams, they are usually a distraction and it is better to improve your handwriting and spelling.
Also I think there should be a crack down on dos subjects and only allow them if the student does another average subject, to be frank media studies will get you no where and same with many other courses.

Type the server name of any RM server in word with the slashes and it'll turn into a clickable link that'll open it up. Obviously rights will come into play and prevent a lot of access but the packaged software is available. ;)

Also pull out the network cable just before Windows saying Applying Account settings or words to that effect, just as the wallpaper springs up and bam, GP doesn't apply. Although it does mean no network access.

Obviously this stuff works on any network but we had an RM one at school or at least did, but I've not been there in a few years now.

did better things like:
chane mouse buttons over
turn screen upside down
swap keyboard and mice over
swap monitors over
attach another mouse and move that around
change launguage setting
enter incorrect password 3 times & have others account locked for 10mins (always fun)

As a former secondary ICT teacher you are everything I hate in a school pupil.

So let's get this into perspective.
Students decide for 1 hour to have a bit of fun and just remember he didn't say they did this every lesson.
So for 1 hour they still did IT related stuff while having a bit of fun and you hate them?
Well it's a good job you got out of teaching if something like that could wind you up.
Try doing IT lessons with Juvenile Offenders and then you might be a tad upset.

Anyway OP, I don't mind you spending my tax money on 1 hour of IT related fun, better than sitting typing on Facebook all lesson.

I think it's part and parcel of IT lessons to muck about at some point.

Here's a list of what I can remember doing;

1. Creating a fake login screen and harvesting passwords
2. Getting a copy of the power key and randomly turning on/off entire rooms of computers (BBC Model Bs, it was a looooong time ago).
3. Playing "Lander" on the Acorn Archimedes and claiming it was research for my A-Level project (which it was, as I did a 3D wire-frame modelling program).
4. Remove the terminator plugs and causing the network to go into spasm (without a terminator the signal reflects off of the end-points of the cable).
5. Throwing LEDs into the acid bath in the electronics lab, setting off the fire alarm.

Didn't do me any harm.

*twitch*

Netsends to the whole school quite often were the main thing I did, creating PHP proxies too. The odd ****** on the teachers projector happened to.

Meh, PHP/CGI proxies suck, they can be monitored and blocked. SSH tunnels is where it's at :D

Netsend * was also a good one in year 6, although it did crash the print server so I got told off for that one.

Also got banned from IT in the first year of secondary school for a few weeks for showing everyone how to make a shortcut to Pinball, had the whole class playing!

A spoofed email using PHP from a tutor to a friend was also a good one.

Good old days :p

We found we could access everyone's files using Firefox. Also, putting tinfoil in the 1394 port screws the computer and to get it working again you have to pull the power lead out for a little while. That one turned into a plague.

After a mate changed a file using the Firefox trick my mate made a pretty decent fake letter from the Deputy Head saying he was going to be kicked out of his IT GCSE and possibly suspended. He wasn't particularly bright and believed it for a week or so. Damn I miss school!

It's pretty clear that a very very large proportion of school IT techs throughout the country don't know how to do their jobs effectively. Not just an opinion i get from this thread but from experience and talking to other schools.

I on the other hand would love to see the vast majority of destructive / time wasting methods attempted on my network  /confidence
