Due an upgrade this month/next, and tempted to either talk to Orange and say i dont want one, but make the contract itself a lot cheaper, and pay for a new phone..or use the upgrade and get the best one available.

The ones that are taking my fancy are the 6500's, TyTN II and the iPhone (would have to pay obviously), what would you get?

Sort of leaning towards the iPhone..but would mean a new contract at some point (to get internet access).

I had the 6500 classic and it is a nice phone but I have recently got an iPhone. The iPhone is the best phone I have ever had. If I were you I would either upgrade to the phone with a high resale value and you can sell it and get an iPhone, or you can change to o2 simplicity and buy an iPhone and unlock it and get a data bolt on.

about this data bolton. i had a similar idea of buying a nice phone and getting the simplicity sim + data add on thing. is this truely unlimited or what? i hear there is a 200mb limit on this which is pretty useless for 7.50 as t-mobile do a gig for 7.50

can anyone confirm this?

Really? Even though you can't send files via bluetooth/record videos etc?

(not arguing by the way)

i think the iPhone is a complete joke to be honest with you, there is a whole lot that you cant do which seems really stupid to me.
im looking at a large touch screen phone with more features thant he iPhone and would like the luxuary of having a nice data add on to use with it.

so.. who does the best data add ons with sim only plans?

I'm in the same boat. I sent back the Viewty, having problems with signal on the w890i and couldn't get along with the iPhone at all so struggling to find something worthwhile to keep hold of. Debating just selling the w890i, pocketing the money and sticking with my old trusty 6300. There really is a lack of decent handsets I feel at the moment.

Very true. im due an upgrade soon and want something with the same/better features than i currently have and there isnt much. ive been looking at the HTC Touch Cruise but as of yet its not available on contract so id have to buy the phone outright which would cost a small fortune.

i do really think that technology hasnt advanced much in the past year which is a dissapointment.

I will admit it has limitations and hopefully these issues will be adressed in the future. The biggest thing for me is the combination of my iPod and phone. I have never got on well with the mp3 players on other phones.

Also I love the browser on it. (using it now)

I dont mind not having bluetooth etc, as you can sort that with 3rd party apps on the iPhone.

Been thinking about getting an upgrade to sell on, if i was to get a contract it would be the T-Mobile WnW, or the O2 iPhone contract, with unlimited text bolt on (around the same im paying at orange.)

Anyone know what sort of price i should be looking at when signing back on for Orange on the Dolphin 35 (40 quid) plan? Hoping about 20-25.

Just been having a look at the HTC Touch Cruise, does look very smart!

it is a very smart phone but is not available on contract yet.. but there is the HTC TyTN II which is similar, doens thave the touch FLO cube but does have a full qwerty keyboard and gps and a 3MP camera with the normal bluetooth etc you get from *normal* phones unline the iPhone.

might just get the TyTN II instead as its available now and the qwerty keyboard is great to use.

My dad uses the Vario III (TyTN) and it is a very good phone, but quite large, and i prefer slim/smaller phones, so think i may lean towards the iPhone with the new Discount added..any others to look at?

Theres the new LG's that look pretty good too..

the most complete phone is the n95 and has everything thrown in, small package (much smaller than it looks) and now a decent battery life from both the original and the 8gb black, with lots of symbian60 software available. howver it isnt the best built.. the most impressive phone is the iphone, but out of the box it's software is shockingly incomplete and has a poor camera / no bluetooth file transfer but almost everythign except the BT transfer can be sorted with 3rd party software providing you dont mind unlocking the phone. erm other than that, other phones are just different. i dont feel they offer any real competition to the iphone or n95. the viewty is an awful phone and LG offer no support at all, so i have no hopes for the new touchscreen phones from them.

I think those flaws are either fixed by third party apps or are far, far outweighed by what it can do. In my opinion anyway. I got mine on Friday and can't imagine getting rid of it.
