I'm looking to do my printing at home now so that I have a chance to experiment a bit. I have around £200 to spend and i've heard good things about the Canon and Epson printers.

I'm liking the look of the Epson R800, although I hear that the Canons tend to be more efficient in terms of ink. Is that right?

Also would I be looking at buying Epson or Canon A4 photo paper for these?
Ta :D

I always favour canons as my older experience of Epsons wasnt great with them taking ages to charge the ink and clogging frequently. My old Canon S750 produces great results and the inks are really cheap.

But yes these days my S750 collects dust and I fill the pockets of Photobox! Much better quality and probably works out at about the same price as using your own ink/photo paper

We have a Canon ip5000 and it produces great results, and the ink carts are cheap as well (compares to the likes of HP and Epson) which is one of the reasons we went for it.

It has now been replace with the ip5200, but i think the carts in these are more expensive as they now incorporate a chip i believe.

Has indeed been replaced by the 5200, but this is well under his budget of £200. The 5200 can be found on the high street at £89.95, with inks at 8.95 and 11.95.

I'd look into how much the 8500 is these days.
