Hi chaps and chapesses. Im in need of a "quick and dirty" point and shoot for taking out and about for random snaps while skiing, travelling and going to parties etc, so I need something cheapish but good quality. Nowadays it seems that budget cameras really have progressed, and you get a lot for your money in terms of specs and features.

Models i'm looking at in particular are:

Canon Powershot 3300 IS (not pretty but a proven performer and compact size)

Panasonic DMC-FS40 (basically the newer improved model of the FS16)

Canon powershot SX150 IS (not as compact, but I like the 12x Optical, full manual controls, and dedicated movie button)

Sony W570 (seems to me to be the weakest of the bunch really, but included it as its around the pricepoint)

Any particular recommendations out of that lot, or any other models I haven't considered? :)

Sorry i should have also added HD video is a must too! The A590 was a good workhorse, but a bit long in the tooth now I think in terms of features compared to modern day budget cams. :)

If your phone needs upgrading, I'd get an iphone 4s contract.

£100 point and shoot with their gazillion mega-pixels suck BADLY in terms of IQ.

What a load of cobblers, no they dont "suck badly". The ones I listed in my OP (Canon and Panasonics especially) have good IQ, backed up by many professional reviews. As for the phone comment... no comment.

how about a 2nd hand canon sx210 is they are currently going for exactly £100

Second hand isnt an option really as I dont live in the UK and the second hand market here is pretty much relegated to Ebay. :(
