I bought this booard as a stop gap to get me up and playing battlefield 1 and was recommended a Intel G3258 but the game just wont play without a quad core chip so can anyone help me with the best value for money chip I.E i5 or i7 to suit the 1150 board

Anyone please?

Kind regards Lee

You mean Asrock Z97 Anniversary Edition surely? It's going to depend on what you can pick up second hand now. Any of the Haswell/Haswell refresh/Devils Canyon cpu's will work in it so anything up to the i5 4690k and i7 4790k. Don't pay silly prices though as it reaches a point were it makes more sense to build a new pc rather than spend a large chunk of money updating a old one. The cpu support list for your motherboard can be found here.

The B-grade 4690 is ok but that's more than I would want to pay for a locked cpu.

Thanks, yes I meant Asrock, sorry never had my glasses on lol..... thanks for the list and for letting me know that the 4690 is not overclockable.. thats why I bought the G series chip but the game automatically detects that it is a 2 core chip

The G3258 is only a dual core but Intel released it as a unlocked cpu to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Pentium cpu's. It may be overclockable but at the end of the day it's only a dual core and their days are long numbered with games making more and more use of cores.

If you want to be able to overclock then you need a unlocked k series cpu so a i5 4670k/i5 4690k/i7 4770k/i7 4790k are your choices. They are going for ridiculous prices on Ebay though with the unlocked i7's going for £250+!! In the case of the 4770k that is more than they were when new. Only £360 will get you a brand new Ryzen 1500x, B350 motherboard and 16Gb of 3200mhz DDR4 plus all the Ryzen cpu's and boards are overclockable. I know which one I would rather go for.

when you put it like that it sounds a bargain typical I just bought another 16gb of DDR3 a couple of months back.... was hoping to get another year out of it till we sell our house then I was going to get one of the high end bundles on here..

Thank for the frank answers though some time we need a kick in the sack to make us realise we are wasting money and time...
