i have an asus striker ii extreme ready for my next pc build. i havent brought the other parts yet,so i wonder what is the best available ram for this mobo.

i am not normally a fan of g skill ram but i am considering G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-16000CL9D-4GBRH)

or stick with the try and tested Corsair Dominator XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600C9D Twin3X (TW3X4G1600C9D)

i wanted to know can i use the full speed of the g skill ram as i have had problems with overclocking ram to its normal speed before on my evga 750i ***. if not neither then any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

this is the full build in case anyone is interested

intel core 2 quad q9650 or q9550
asus striker ii extreme (got)
8 gig of whatever is the best ram
2* 9800gtx (got), maybe a 9600gt for physic but i dont think its worth it
Asus Xonar D2X 7.1
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 850W/1000W depending on how much i got
antec 902 case (got)

So just in case, in meanwhile ;-) today I've received Corsair XMS3 DHX Dual-Path sticks (2x2GB) DDR3/1600 MHz CL9 and they *do work* with Striker II Extreme. The model is: TW3X4G1600C9DHX G. They work both at 1333 and at 1600 with CL9 and timings 9-9-9-24. Command rate is 1T @1333 and 2T @1600. Voltage 1.8.
I've seen they work as CL7, but had no time to check it myself. I've spend 71 quids for it, OcUK has got it too:

P.S.
For your rig PSU 700W is sufficient enough, bigger wattage means more energy to be wasted. Unless you think about 3-way SLI with 3rd GTX. 9600GT for PhysX is not worth as there are 4 games using it and fps gain would be invisible in your case IMO.

P.S.2.
Yes, I confirm - they work @ 1333 MHz with 7-7-7-18 timings and 1.50V only :)

I would like to know the answer to that too....

I cannot think of a reason why we cannot use low voltage memory on a Striker II Extreme.

When I bought mine, the only way to get 1600mhz with decent timings was with 1.9 volts but I'm not sure whether it's the voltage that contributes to the instability I sometimes get or because it's OCZ memory?

I bought OCZ because DDR3 prices were just so high last year and it was the only reasonable way to get 1600mhz. I'm now temped to buy a set of these: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-202-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1387

my corsair 1600mhx dhx cas 9 have run at 1066, 1333 and 1600 perfectly fine. timings were the default SPD of 7.7.7.something for all but the 1600 where i set it to its rated of 9.9.9.24 and also command rate of 1t. I bought two lots (8gb) of the stuff, and had 3 faulty sticks, but after two RMA's they are rock solid, so probably a dodgy batch or something.

Only two of the four memory slots officially support 2000mhz btw.

Yeah... I've never got 1T from my OCZ.

Probably makes little difference but when I first put my system together, I have to admit to being a little disappointed :-(

My OCZ seems to be more unstable at anything other than [email protected] since I've run it like that for so long!

I have 2x1GB OCZ Platinum 1333Mhz running in my S2E as we speak. Works fine at rated speeds, never tried to overclock it properly tbh. 1.8v.

Getting some 4x2GB OCZ FlexEx 2000Mhz in a few days (depending on postman!), so I'll let you know how that goes. Unfortunately I could only find it from a US retailer, but I imagine the lower speed FlexEx OCUK stocks here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-139-OC will work fine if mine do.

My XMS3 work @1700 MHz, but don't like 1800 (loose timings, voltage 1.9). Maybe giving them more voltage here and there push love to 1800 MHz ? ;-)

Well the RAM I purchased doesn't reach 2000Mhz :/ At stock settings, the highest I can make it go is 1697Mhz and if I set timings to 'auto' it'll go up to about 1824 at 11-11-11-32. I don't know how to prove if this is a RAM issue or a motherboard issue though...

Oddly enough, Memtest throws up a lot of errors if I set the voltage to OCZ's recommended 2.0v. If I just set it to 'auto' it works fine at about 1.74.
