It really would be your best bet. Just get away from the UK mainland if you want to enjoy your holiday. 98% of seaside towns are disgusting dives filled with chavs and scum. I've tried most of it and always come away disappointed.
I'd say Burnham on sea is better. It's half a mile from the steps to the sea and it's all mud
