Its about time I started

I was thinking phase but think I should play with water first.

Can someone recommend me a decent starter kit thats also quiet ?

I've had a look around and think I'm geared to going for an alpha cool with some fat passive radiators but I'm not sure what is a quiet starter kit.

Any advice warmly welcomed :D

(PS Size internal or external not an issue)

Thanks for all the replies !

I Had a read and search round and think I'll be going :

AlphaCool Xtreme Pro 240 Rev.2

I'll see how I get on with that before replacing the radiator with a cape cora 642.

Any reservations towards the kit or should I buy the bits separately ?

Go for a custom setup.. Its much more satisfying in the end. I changed to water cooling a few weeks back and decided to go custom as I could get exactly what I was after. Do some reading up on it and you can work out which parts are decent. It didn't cost me much more to go custom over getting a kit either. :)

Thanks mate I'm doing the reading and did add up a cart with pumps, rads, connectors and it all mounted up quite pricey.

I haven't done water for years and things have moved on a bit since.

What did you go for in the end ?
Cheers

I went for...

Pump: Laing DDC Ultra + Petras top,
Rad: ThermoChill 120.2,
CPU Block: Swiftech Apogee,
GPU Block: DD Maze 5,
Tubes: ClearFlex 1/2"
Res: Dual Floppy bay res.

I'm using two Scythe 1600rpm fans on my rad running at 5v. They are pretty much silent and also keep the rad fairly cool. Am just in the process of mutilating my case so I can remount my rad inside.. Bit of a pain as it means I need to drain the loop and I really can't be bothered to do it!

The original Swiftech kit with the Storm Block was seen as the best kit available and while debatably the new kit isn't as good with the Apogee block it still represents good value for money. The Alphacool Nexxos block is seen as better than the Apogee and almost as good as the Storm waterblock. The Swiftech rad has the edge over all rads apart from the Thermochill PA series rads. The best pumps are either the DD D4/5 or the DDC Ultra (all based on the same impeller IIRC)

Thanks Street very much obliged for your input... BTW The Laing DDC seems popular is it relatively silent ?

@weescot : Thanks dude

Mine is very quiet.. I had some vibrations from it into my case originally as it was just mounted on the base of the case. But I have since mounted it on a piece of foam.. I get no vibrations what so ever from it now! The noisiest things in my case are now my hard drives...

Well I have the swiftech kit on my age old XP2500-m setup and all I can say it that it is amazing, with my CPU @ 2500mhz and 1.76V (actual, 1.825 bios), with the swiftech kit and the apogee block, with all fans @ 5V my load temps have never exceeded 44C.

@Street : wow didnt realize how quiet water cooling has become these days :)

I've been also eying up a water chiller but at the overall price it approaches phase prices so I'll start here with the basics.

Thanks again for your input
