Hi,

im looking for the best performance SATAIII SSD for my PC. I want something in the 240-256GB data size range and I don't want a pci card, just a standard 2.5inch style.

I have heard about the newest offering from corsair, patriot, and cruical are all very similar in performance, is that right?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: I thought of this just after writing so i thought i'd add it in. I have HDDs that are using a raid1 at the moment and they are using 2 of my SATAIII ports, would i get the same performance if i just plug them into regular SATAII ports instead? Also, will i lose data if i do this? (should lose anything should i???)

Read up reviews - of the current crop of sandforce drives go for one with synchronous nand - they all have similar performance - I'd just go for the best deal although personally I might stay away from OCZ and Corsair drives (since these seem to be the ones that suffer most from BSOD/hibernation issues etc).

The Crucial M4 uses a Marvell and not a sandforce controller, and is very similar in performance and seems to be very reliable.

You could also look at the new Samsung drive (830). Brand new - similar performance to the above 2 - not as good in compressible writes but very good random uncompressed reads (a good thing). It's new so not sure if it has any issues yet, but will no doubt get good firmware support etc since its from Samsung.
