My sister has just passed her driving test, and has a pug 106 - she wants a steering wheel lock for xmas.

I cannot afford the £60/£80 locks (my celica has one) - Are the cheaper ones even worth it? if so whats the best one to get? (I remember a link to a site was posted here with comparisons, but google fails me)

For best security the big disclock things which wrap around the wheel are what you want. I read a test in Practical Mechanics and the halfords own disclock came 2nd best and was about £50. Cheap ones not worth the bother, trivial to defeat for most car thieves.

I have a stoplock pro and have had for years and despite being eminently theivable my mk2 golf GTI has remained untouched.

My £15 steering wheel lock could aparantly be removed in 3 seconds. Lucky my alarm and immobiliser are pretty up to standard. :p

I think of it more as a visual deterrant.

The best ones are those that completely cover the steeringwheel and have well sheilded locks.

I have the Halfords Wheel lock for the Mazda, its not a full disk lock but its a 3/4 one passed that Cat3 test, good solid unit and its still going strong after 4 years, most impressed.

yeah, i've got the disklok pro thing in my celica (the whole wheel covers) but I can't afford that for xmas for me sister

Didn't some taser company come out with an electric shock steering wheel lock. Can't find it now on google.
