You hate Rooney and think he's not fit for a pub team, we get it. ;)

Of course Rooney is average and a team like Utd carry him. Along with all the other average at best players we have. He can't score with both feet and his head. He's also very rubbish at penalties.

Yes your sarcasm monitor should be going off right about now. Remember DM thinks that players like Xavi are over rated also.

Both RVP and Rooney have pretty identical scoring records at club and international level.

DM's assertions usually start off with some random stat about shots on target vs off target and then uses that for a staw man argument. Rooney can drop deep, play left sided attacker, sole striker, play right hand side.

RVP without question. I'm a United fan who likes Rooney but RVP is amazing right now. It's a pity he didn't amount to much in Euro 2012.

But if we are talking about overall contribution rather than just last season in isolation then RVP is nowhere near the level of Rooney.

If I'm choosing a striker, I'm looking for goals.

Last three seasons in the PL:

Rooney: 64 goals in 94 games (0.68 goals per game)
RVP: 57 goals in 79 games (0.72 goals per game)

Both great records but RVP scores more goals per game - despite playing in a far worse team.

Why use these statistics, Rooney doesn't just sit up around defenders 100% of the time like RvP, he also isn't the only focus point of the team, unlike RVP FC

Also a striker isn't just about goals, doesn't account for assists there, assists of assists, pulling defenders away with great movement to make space for other players, general link up play etc.

Stats are ****. I HATE the way they are trotted out in order to semi-support arguments. Over the last 3 years in the PL Rooney has been far better than RVP. 0.72 goals per game?! bloody hell, just watch the games and decide who has been more influential and a better player.

I voted for RvP. Only injuries have kept him from being one of the most prolific strikers in the world and last season was the first real season he's had for 3 years.

Would've voted for Torres two years ago but it's not even unfair for him to not be included on the list he's fallen so far from grace. Thought he would get back to top form after a baron spell but that baron spell has lasted far too long for it to be considered just a dip in form, he's terminally broken.

But surely that is a relevant consideration? He may be great when fit but if he is constantly injured then he really isn't that useful? We aren't talking one broken leg or cruciate ligament here, he has a consistent injury record.

For all the talk about RvP just goal hanging or whatever, even if that is the case it is more to do with the nature of the role he's been asked to play, rather than a limitation of his ability. His link play is actually very good and his best position is probably playing just off a main striker. Not suggesting Rooney isn't versatile either (I voted for him in this poll) but RvP certainly isn't a one-trick pony. Someone like Gomez, maybe (not suggesting there is anything wrong with being a predator btw).

Personally I think if Giroud is signed and RvP won't commit to a new deal he should be sold (£25m+), he will never better his goals record this season so it could be time to cash in. His injury record means he could miss some months of next season then come January he e.g: signs a precontract agreement with Juve and just plays out his final few months at the Emirates.

I voted RvP. If drogba had been in the list it would've made it more difficult. Aguero was also difficult to look over but I think Robin pips them both.

The way these polls are going there's not actually going to be one Man Utd player in the team at the end, I guess that's a discussion all of it's own....

Rooney better than Aguero, really ?

Very strange isn't it? This forum has a very odd vision of Rooney, maybe it's due to the amount of Man Utd fans here but I even saw somebody refer to his world class all around ability earlier which raised a small smile. Does that include his dodgy first touch, bad temper which affects his game and the questionable short passing?

Ah it's worthless anyway, ocuk and Rooney are just one of those things, don't see it anywhere else

Also it seems that this forum has a strange vision of RvP as somebody who doesn't leave the box, his build up play is awesome and I'm fairly sure he had more assists, more key passes etc. than nearly all strikers in the league, and he is an SS naturally, not sure how that has been overseen by the forum but there you have it. Then again it's Purdy etc. Saying that so that only backs me up

Do you guys watch RvP much?! He might not drop to the half way line to get the ball, but that's to his credit, that is one of Rooneys flaws imo, being out of position when he gets annoyed at getting no service. Almost all our attacks go through RvP, he's amazing around the box, that's where he is most comfortable as a no. 10, his technique and build up play are RvP's strong points, his finishing is alright but he only gets so many chances as his build up play and movement is justnoutstanding.
