Ok, my usual routine has always been breakfast and then brush my teeth straight after so get rid of all the food.

I usually have cereal and then an apple for breakfast.

However someone told me that cereals like alpen soften the enamel and so does the acidicness of apples, and brushing your teeth immediately after these can have a damaging effect.

Anyone else agree with the above? And is it best to brush your teeth before breakfast?

Cheers

i cant see how apples can be acidic, i thought their PH level was normal? n im fairley sure alpen wont soften your teeth, i mean the milk you have with it will actually help your teeth and bones wont it?

Got Milk?

Its true, shouldnt clean your teeth really after eating acidic items. It does soften the enamel and then you destroy it with your brush.

Never knew that..

I always have breakfast then brush my teeth before I leave for work as the last thing I do.

Evenings, always before bed.

I might, if i remember brush after lunch at work.

I can't eat anything until I've brushed my teeth, morning breath food - yum :/. So definately before.

Uggghhh... minty fresh breath whilst drinking fruit juice. I could never do that. :p

I actually kind of stopped brushing in the mornings, I only brush at night now  . If I was seeing people i'd probably brush twice. Interestingly, I have no fillings or other dental work and don't get morning breath :)

I brush my teeth as soon as I get up, get dressed, drive to work and have my breakfast at around 9.30. I obviously brush them last thing at night too. Doesn't stop them from being less-than-white though!

I brush my teeth in the morning when i get up because i dont eat breakfast, then i dont touch them all day and brush them as soon as i get in from work.

Then i'll wait a couple hours usually till after tea then brush them again, depending on how much i eat i'll brush them at least once more before bed.

True. But you can drink water to neutralise the acid and then brush afterwards. They say you should sip water during and after a meal for this reason.

What on earth... is there nothing better to talk about?

Try another forum... Speakers Corner perhaps

I have alwas brushed before breakfast and last thing at night with some mouthwash after that. I also chew sugar free gum after lunch for that anti-acid freshness :D

always brush before eating your breakfast.. the bacteria that collect on your teeth and in your mouth multiply over night as there is less motion to discard them and then when you eat... wahey! also food stuffs stick much better to "unclean" teeth.

Our dental hygienist recommends that you should brush your teeth before breakfast as it is better to remove any bacterial build up before you eat anything. When you brush your teeth at night, she also recommends that you only use a pea sized amount of toothpaste and that you don't rinse all the toothpaste away. If you do rinse, you are supposed to rub some toothpaste over your teeth as 'proper' toothpastes can be reabsorbed by the teeth over night, which apparently strengthens them.
