Best TV 50" plus approx £1500 (without lots of issues)

its a sad day when you have so much money to spend on a tv and cant get 1 without faults, ive just gone for the 50px990 the lg 3d and even though the blacks dont flicker and the set is impressive the blacks are not the same as the panasonic but not far of but the lg has line bleeding reflection and dirty screen,so also with faults,so all these years down the line and still cant find a decent set without faults,
p.s hope you find what you want

If you are in no rush then you might as well wait. Just be prepared for what could possibly be a very long wait. Although the new samsung 8000 series of led lcds look quite nice.

pioneer kuro full stop. still the best around. if you are lucky you may find one with warranty on it. many have been purchased w/ 5yr warranty, and Pioneer is still around to guarantee them even if they aren't producing any new models.

otherwise get a Pana, imo no way LCDs (or LED backlit ones) come close to plasmas.

in te end if you are put off by 2nd hand kuro or rising black Pannys then get a projector.

BTW i have owned LCDs since launch of HDTVs and still have some, it's just that plasma is clearly better (i too was concerned with IR, burn, buzzing before i bought my first plasma, well I am not dissapointed)

I don't agree with that, both the V10 and V20 have Kuro tech in them and has previously mentioned it is only the cheaper V10 that has those issues.

Buying a 2nd hand Kuro would be a risk and things have moved on plenty from 2008.

No they don't. Not even close. It has been rumored that the 2011 models will have kuro technology. The V10 and V20 still have panasonics own technology NOT pioneers.

50 V20 here too and it's the same story - little buzzing on bright white screens and some of the "surround" options for the sound produce a definite echo but once setup correctly it's the dogs :D

My 360 and BD player both look stunning - watched Avatar recently and was very immersed (bugger 3D) ...

Pretty sure you are wrong there. From the reviews and other articles I've read all the current high end series Panasonics have at least some Kuro tech as they have an agreement with Pioneer. Example from V20 review:

Also included is the infinite black pro technology which uses filters to deepen the black level of the panel and also to reject ambient light. This is clever technology first seen on the legendary Pioneer Kuro screens and even in very bright rooms with lots of light hitting the screen; the image remains stable and doesn’t wash out completely like other Plasma TVs would.

Most Plasma's buzz, especially on whites but honestly once you have the volume on, you don't notice at all.

all assumptions

Yes the blacks have been improved year on year, but it isn't the same technology used by pioneer.

Those in the know will make a real song and dance about it if and when Kuro makes a return

Yes it is, there are loads of articles to backup my statement, interviews with Panasonic themselves at CES2010. I'm not saying it is a Kuro, but they have the same technology.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/ces-2011/1168178-ces-2010-panasonic-50-3dtv-kuro-back-spirit.html

I know I've read all those threads about the V20 series and other forums but it isn't actual kuro technology. Stick a pioneer next to a V20 and you'll see.

That said, next years 'if you believe the rumors going around' 2011 models will have it.

It is all well and good saying that, but do you actually have anything to back up your statement. I mean I'm perfectly willing to accept that you might be right, but just saying it doesn't make it so without any evidence.

I assume you are a Pioneer owner? ;)

let's also hope they make the 2011 panasonics about twice as thin as they are right now, more in keeping with Samsung styling or LG, atm they are fat and boring to look at. Or better still a desent size OLED arrive in 2011

Incorrect. The new pannels, ala V20, G20 have lowering black levels with rises in MLL (albeit not the as bad as the older models). It is a shame :( It seems only the old Kuro's or the 2011 panasonics are worth touching.

Not sure where you are getting this info from mate. Be interested to know. I read AVforums all the time and no mention of it there. Which is strange becuause they were all over the V10 issue.

Over what timeframe are the black levels supposed to rise? Can't say I've noticed anything in the last 5 months of ownership. I've got a pz80 to fall back on if it all goes wrong... However the newer set is tremendous in comparison currently.

There is a thread about "over researching" in GD at the moment, and while I'm all for demoing and research, I'm of the opinion that no one would ever buy anything if we took evey fault on the web to heart.

Anyway, best to make up your own mind and hold out if you don't absolutely need a tv now and can't find exactly the one you want.

why make them thinner, the lg and samsung ones all sound terrbible as the speakers are so small, id rather have better sound than a thinner telly.

Because they look so much better, the sound is not really an issue for normal tv and if it is you can always have external speakers and amp and such which blow any in built speakers anyways. I wouldnt really care if the tv came with no speakers at all as long as is was nice looking very thin and had a great picture. A fat ugly tv is always going to be fat and ugly no matter what you do to it.

Guess it all depends where its going to be fair. Mine is on a stand so I wouldnt even be able to see if its 1cm or 20cm thick. But on a wlal mounted TV then it does looks lots better the slimmer it is.

Have to disagree about the sound. I only ever fire up my amp for films. day to day viewing I just use the TV speakers so they are important to me. Sure im not alone there.

Ah right I agree if it's on a stand in a corner then its not so important how slim a tv is but wall mounted the slim tv's just look so much better. Is the sound on the slim tv's so bad for just watching normal tv?. I think I could just about live with it. For movies I aggree more is needed.

i have a G10 which is about 10cm thick and wall mounted, i dont find it offensive most people look at them front on not sideways so dont mid how thick they are.
